Job Summary

Reporting to the Utilities Manager, the incumbent performs locksmith duties and installation and service of Electronic Access Systems (EAS), Intrusion Alarm Systems (IAS), and Video Surveillance Systems (VSS) for University owned buildings.

Key Responsibilities

Participates in design of Electronic Access Systems, Intrusion Alarm Systems, and Video Surveillance Systems

Installs, services, maintains and programs functions of the above systems and associated devices (such as, but not limited to, alarm panels, key pads, motion sensors, proximity readers, surveillance cameras, digital video recorders)

Maintains accurate records for above systems schematics, components and locations)

Trains end users, including Security Services in the proper operation of the above noted systems

Keeps current record of all stock, and charges of stock to appropriate work order via FAMIS. Liaises with Store personnel regarding procurement of material (inventory)

Installs, repairs, and maintains locks as required

Operates all equipment necessary to install and maintain locks and security devices; (eg. Duplicating machines, grinders, electric drills, presses, etc.)

Prepares authorised duplicate keys

Responds to dispatch calls

Prepares estimates

Prepares key codes for buildings

Maintains appropriate key inventory

Maintain comprehensive cross-reference key file with all pertinent information locations, number, type, key codes, etc.)

Performs all duties in accordance with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety act, as well as University and government rules and regulations and applicable building codes

Maintains a clean work environment

Performs other duties as required

Note

Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

Required Qualifications

Valid Alarm and Security Technician Certificate of qualification recognized by the Department of Education preferred

Five years experience with installation, maintenance and programming of electronic access control, intrusion alarm and video surveillance systems

Valid certificate of training as recognized by Best Universal Locks, or equivalent, with five years recent and related experience required

Completion of Canadian Systems Security Association (CANASA), Level 1 & 2 training, would be an asset

Computer literate including EAS, IAS, VSS an asset

Familiar with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety act, as well as University and government rules and regulations

Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints

Reliable and punctual

Ability to take direction

Good communication (oral and written) and organizational skills

Knowledge of tools of the trade

Must be willing and able to work overtime, as required

Bondable

General Safety and WHIMIS training an asset
