Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Manager (based in London) to be part of a team of 4 Area Security Managers overseeing 18 Team Leaders and over 200 operational staff within the London area, who provide security response and guarding to BBC sites 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
The key responsibilities include taking command and control of major/critical incidents at operational or tactical level, management and development of the team, creation and implementation of operational and emergency procedures, and to act as the key interface between security and other internal/external teams and partners.
This role is a fantastic opportunity to have real influence within Mitie security operations at the BBC.
The Area Manager position is fixed Monday to Friday, plus 1 weekend in 4, covering early, mid and late shifts between 06:30 and 22:00. There may be occasions (due to operational requirements) when the Area Security Manager needs to provide cover during other times of the day or night. This will include performing out of hours visits to various sites.Regular travel between sites in London is also required, with occasional travel to other sites nationally. Contractual working hours are 45 hrs per week.
Main Duties
Responsible for the operation and continual development of the security staff within their region.
To be the first management point of contact for any security incidents.
To manage security incidents at Operational (Bronze) or Tactical (Silver)level.
Ensuring that KPI’s are met and in line with client expectations.
Responsible for ensuring that procedures for the security staff remain current and up to date.
Responsible for management of shift patterns, the authorising and planning of staff leave and management of sickness absence.
Responsible for undertaking performance development reviews and team meetings.
Responsible for recruitment and retention of security staff.
Assist with the creation and development of contingency and emergency planning and procedures for all operational sites in the event of an emergency.
Assist with development and implementation of any new systems on behalf of the BBC and then organising in house workshops to embed these.
Interface with the partner teams to ensure that any issues are getting tracked and resolved.
Monitoring and analysing all relevant reports and briefing documents.
Completion and distribution of management reports to SLT and client.
Being proactive and making suggestions for continuous improvement.
To ensure appropriate records are maintained of accidents, incidents or near misses and maintain an accurate log of site restrictions/hazard identification.
Work with the security operations team to ensure that up to date on line site inductions and site safety documentation and operational safety plans are in place for each site.
Provide an active contribution towards ensuring operations and maintenance activities are carried out to industry best practice and regulation in terms of Health, Safety and the Environment.
Carrying out other reasonable tasks as directed by the SLT.
What we are looking for
To apply, you must have proven experience of line managing a team, ideally in a busy security, military or police environment with experience of creating and developing new procedures and processes. Previous knowledge of incident management and command and control structures and escalation processes will be beneficial. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and a flexible approach to work is essential due to the nature of the role.
