Evening Security Coordinator – Middle/Upper School

The Evening Security Coordinator plays a crucial role in assuring the safety and security of our facilities, assets, faculty, staff and visitors. Working in partnership with the Director of Security, the Evening Security Coordinator will assist in overseeing all security operations during nonoperational hours, both on and off the premises. This position will be responsible for managing security services during non-operational hours, ensuring that all policies, protocols, and procedures are being respected to ensure a safe and secure environment for all. This is a nonexempt, hourly position with a salary range of $31.25 – $33.65 per hour. This role requires leadership, critical thinking and a proactive approach to risk management and offers a unique opportunity, in partnership with the Director of Security, to lead and enhance the security posture of our organization.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Assist the Director of Security in coordinating and providing direction of security operations across the school premises.
Patrol designated areas on foot to enforce institution rules and regulations, local, state, and federal statutes and ordinances;
Inspect buildings and grounds for prowlers, fire, property damage, or other irregularities.
Direct and regulate traffic, investigate accidents or crimes; administer first aid; gather evidence; locate witnesses.
Operate department communication equipment; answer telephone inquiries; receive reports of criminal activity; dispatch foot and mobile units; monitor alarm systems; prepare, type, and distribute reports;
Attend building safety and staff meetings and various school related events; identify areas of concern, make recommendations and implement agreed upon resolutions;
Regularly maintain surveillance of any areas suspect for criminal activity;
Assist city or county police and state patrol in cases of emergency;
Manage monthly fire extinguisher and AED inspections;
Assist in maintaining inventory of all classroom emergency supplies;
Assist with city of Seattle fire department inspections;
Assist with school emergency drills;
Assist as needed with training of staff, faculty & students;
Respond to all school emergencies;
Provide input on contracted security staff;
Perform as Security Manager in their absence;
Perform related duties as required.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, delivering exceptional customer service with all constituents in a school environment, including faculty, staff, administration, residents, vendors, parents and students and the general public;
Knowledge of and experience in security field; understanding rules governing access to buildings and grounds; rules of behavior; general safety precautions and fire hazards; methods and procedures in assisting students, visitors, staff; methods and procedures for searching for violators. Fire extinguisher equipment and fire prevention methods; first aid; report preparation and writing; electronic security systems;
Background in working with and/or leading diverse teams;
Ability to be calm, competent, and clear in crisis situations;
Creative and imaginative problem-solving skills in a school environment;
Ability to learn rules and enforce them; follow written and oral instructions; meet emergencies and employ effective courses of action; write reports; investigate incidents and obtain pertinent information; observe and detect suspicious situations; apply first aid; operate electronic security equipment; use firefighting equipment.
Direct the movement of crowds during special events, emergency and vehicle traffic.
Education and Experience:
High school graduate or equivalent, or equivalent business experience and 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in security, preferably in a supervisory capacity;
2 years of Full Time college in criminal justice, police science or related field preferred but not required;
National Incident Management System training: ICS 100 and 200 courses
Valid WDL required;
Ability to clear all background checks required by the State of WA, Federal government and/or other authorities having jurisdiction over security workers in a private school environment;
Security experience in education a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods on your feet both inside and outside during inclement weather;
Shift work, including evening, holidays, and special events may be required;
Ability to regularly travel between campus locations;
Occasional driving to offsite locations;
Occasional lifting of boxes or materials up to 25-50 pounds
Successful candidates must be able to pass a fingerprint background check as a contingency of employment.
