EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the procedures evaluating non-licensed staff

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
1. High school diploma or equivalent
Experience:
1. One to three years job-related experience preferred, which may be gained by one to three years of experience in law enforcement, security or similar activities, or two years education in law enforcement or criminal justice
Certificates/Licenses:
1. Must hold or be eligible to hold Colorado POST certification or must have successfully completed a state certified, federal or military police academy
2. Must satisfactorily complete initial certification and annual re-certification training in law skills, enforcement and security skills, including but not limited to legal updates, crisis intervention physical control and arrest techniques and firearms qualification
3. Must hold a valid Colorado driver’s license
4. Certified/trained for Standard First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) 5. Certified/trained in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)
6. National Incident Management System (NIMS) Valid Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP)
7. Valid Concealed Hangun Permit (CHP)
Other Necessary Special Requirements:
1. A pre-employment psychological assessment

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides armed patrol of District-owned property to enforce laws and District regulations, detect and/or interdict vandalism, theft, burglary, and other criminal activity
2. Patrols and maintains the grounds of all District facilities to ensure safe operation of facilities and secure environment for students, staff and visitors .
3. Conducts routine, daily inspections of hallways, exterior doorways, gates, etc. to ensure a safe, secure campus
4. Conducts continual and routine patrol of parking lots to ensure that vehicles are parked in authorized areas, bus-loading and unloading zones are not blocked, and traffic flow is exped ient and efficient for safe pedestrian crossing
5. Works with building administration to develop and enforce security policies and procedures.
6. Assists with the coordination or action to take regarding threats of violence or other emergency situations
7. Serves as a liaison with law enforcement agencies, area school districts, parents, and the public as directed by building administration
8. Ensures students, staff and visitors adhere to school board policies and regulations while on campus or at District-sponsored events
9. Issues verbal warnings, reports misconduct and requests assistance from appropriate personnel as required
10. Responds to burglar, fire or panic-alarm activations to check the security of premises and to provide assistance to responding police officers and/or District personnel
11. Assists responding police officers in the conduct of their investigations by contacting necessary District personnel, opening doors, turning off/on alarm systems, etc.
12. Assists in coordination of action to be taken concerning threats of violence on students or District personnel and assists in implementation
13. Confers with and assists building administration, school safety and security and police on investigation or criminal incidents or discipline- policy violations
14. Consistently monitors students in the building, on the grounds, or surrounding areas at all times while on duty.
a. Watches for disturbances, student conflicts, unauthorized visitors, criminal/suspicious activity, etc.
b. ObseNes and gathers information about student involvement in gang-related activities, use illegal substances, etc.
c. Reports incidents to building administration.
d. Assists in the evacuation of the building during fire drills, emergency/crisis drills and in actual emergency/crisis situations.
15. Intervenes to halt or prevent fights, disturbances or other incidents and diffuse threatening or confrontational situations between students or others
16. Makes appropriate notification via telephone, radio or written report of incidents requiring documentation
17. Completes necessary reports to document criminal events or discipline-policy violations
18. Renders appropriate first aid to injured persons and follows established protocol for reporting injuries
19. Investigates and documents criminal events on District-owned property
20. Provides student supervision at after-school functions and athletic events as assigned
21. Provides security and assistance for public meetings or the board of education and other District committees and activities
22. Monitors alarm systems, camera systems and other security devices for District proprieties
23. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, collaborate with co-workers, and interact with colleagues in a professional manner
24. Demonstrates a positive attitude towards change
25. Performs other related duties as assigned
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger; handle and feel; reach with hands and arms; taste and smell; and talk and hear. The employee may also need to stoop, squat, reach, climb, kneel, crouch, stoop, and crawl. The employee may possibly need to extensively walk, run, come in contact with violent youth and/or adults, physically intervene in assaults and/or fights, physically restrain students and/or adults, and physically arrest criminal violators. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently required to exert average or above-average physical activities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to high, precarious places and outside weather conditions. The employee could possibly be exposed to explosives. A significant amount of driving required, sometimes in adverse weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud. The employee may be required assigned shift work, including late evenings and early mornings.
