Position Summary

Assist in ensuring the public safety of the Albuquerque International Sunport by monitoring the airport security systems; operate a multi-line, multi function touch screen telephone system; respond to notifications of aircraft incidents/accidents, security incidents, criminal activities and mechanical/janitorial problems and dispatch to appropriate police, operations or maintenance personnel.

This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

High school diploma or GED supplemented by thirty (30) credit hours of college level course work in general studies; and

Three (3) years of experience in any of the following areas:

radio operations

computer operations

switchboard operations

data entry

One (1) year of processing public service calls is preferred.

Additional Requirements

Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s license, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

Possession of a valid City Operator’s Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.

Must pass Drug Test, Hearing Test and Background check.

Possession of a NCIC Certification within one (1) year from date of hire.

Possession of a New Mexico Department of Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification within one (1) year from date of hire.

Must be able to successfully qualify for and maintain a Sunport Access Control Card as determined by the criteria set forth by the policies and guidelines of the Aviation Department and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Preferred Knowledge

Basic operations, services and activities of a national air transportation system

Policies and procedures for operating emergency communications equipment

Techniques of answering and handling emergency and non-emergency calls

English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation

Modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers

Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and safety regulations

Preferred Skills & Abilities

Operate various forms of communications equipment and security equipment

Respond to emergency situations quickly and calmly and in accordance with department policies and procedures

Relay issues and problems to respective divisions and airport tenant companies for handling

Evaluate and prioritize assignments, work on multiple assignments simultaneously under pressure

Maintain an accurate typing speed of twenty-five (25) WPM

Maintain security and confidentiality of information

Maintain records, files and logs

Interpret and explain City policies and procedures

Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public

Understand and follow oral and written instructions

Communicate clearly and concisely

Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing and spreadsheet applications

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
