Position Summary

Campus Safety officers are responsible for helping ensure the safety and security of Willamette University’s students, employees, visitors, and property during their assigned shifts. They deal with all violations of law and campus policy in an appropriate and equitable manner and positively engage with diverse individuals and groups in support of an inclusive environment.

The Campus Safety Officer position reports to the Associate Director of Campus Safety. This position is responsible for responding to situations utilizing a set of well-defined policies, procedures, and expectations. Must be able to perform duties with independence. Provides direction and supervision to work-study students but has no formal responsibility for supervision. Public relations are an important part of this position. Requires strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills to exchange information with individuals both inside and outside the University. Requires an understanding of a culturally diverse community and the need to interact in a manner that fosters positive relationships in respectful, equitable, and inclusive ways.

Duties and Responsibilities

Campus Safety officers are responsible for helping ensure the safety and security of Willamette University’s students, employees, visitors, and property during their assigned shifts.

Patrol university grounds and facilities to ensure a safe and secure environment, including on foot and in vehicles, patrol campus facilities, parking lots, grounds, and the interior of all buildings on campus.

Monitor all activity and confront any suspicious behavior on Campus.

Escort visitors and intruders off campus if required.
