An Overview
The Food Security Coordinator works to provide direction and recommendations for improving food access and address food insecurity challenges and inequities. The work is done in partnership with a cross section of City agencies, local non-profits and other faith-based and community-based entities focused on hunger and food insecurity. The incumbent provides support to Hunger Free Alexandria in order to identify gaps and priorities, establishes and manages a strategic plan, and implement actions to advance a food system that is accessible, culturally appropriate to all communities, and positively impacts the long-term health and well-being of City residents. The work of this position may require a flexible week-day schedule to accommodate presence and participation in evening and weekend meetings and events. The position supervises a Human Services Specialist, Volunteers and Interns. The work of the Food Security Coordinator is performed under the general supervision of the Div. Chief, Customer Relations in the department’s Center for Economic Support.
