Responsibilities:
Supervise Correctional Officers, develop expectations, monitor performance and work habits, and assist in conducting orientation and in-service training programs.
Observe personnel to ensure compliance with rules, regulations, and procedures. Conduct on-the-job training for Correctional Officers.
Serve as officer-in-charge of special security posts, patrol grounds and buildings, observe offender behaviors, and prepare reports on violations, behaviors, deficiencies, and security breaches.
Discuss minor adjustment problems with offenders; refer serious issues; promote rehabilitation by modifying social attitudes, discouraging undesirable behaviors, and encouraging worthwhile activities.
Inspect buildings and equipment for security, safety, and sanitary conditions.
Supervise movement of offenders, conduct counts, search for contraband, arbitrate disputes, and enforce disciplinary measures.
Perform work according to established rules and regulations, receive general administrative direction, and perform other related duties as assigned.
A physical examination may be required before appointment. A valid vehicle operator’s license may be required by assignment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Six or more months of experience as a Correctional Officer or Probation and Parole Assistant with the Missouri Department of Corrections; OR
One or more years of military service or experience in the custody of adult criminal offenders in various facilities.

Some positions are eligible for a shift differential of $173.34 semi-monthly, applicable to shifts beginning between 12:00 pm and 5:00 am, and at 24/7 worksites. Eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.
