Position Summary

Security Officers in the casino are responsible for the basic security functions for the casino. They will provide protection for casino property, and provide for the safety of guests and employees while maintaining high levels of customer service and guest experience. The Security Officer will work hours appropriate to meet the needs of the business, which may include nights, weekends and holidays.

Essential Functions of the Position

Ensures Thunderbird quality customer service and cheerful atmosphere is maintained in your department
Ensure safety and cleanliness of department at all times
Make good and proper decisions that reflect positively on you and the Casino
Assist in all monetary transactions in the casino as required by existing policies/procedures
Protect casino assets
Ensure the safety and well-being of customers and employees
Operate in accordance with existing policies/procedures
Prepare detailed reports on any security related incidents that occur in the casino or on the casino property
Keep slot areas under close observation at all times to deter theft and other crime
React promptly to disturbances throughout the casino
Stand by the casino cashier cage whenever any non-cage personnel are in the cage
Follow and observe individuals suspected of illegal activities
Assist guests and direct them to safe areas in times of emergencies
Be proficient with all MICs, SOPs and TICs contained in the security department training manual
Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with management, staff and co-workers
Maintain a pleasant and professional attitude
Assure that all actions taken are communicated to the proper entity
Willing to make quick decisions based on training, knowledge, existing policies/procedures and all MICs, SOPs and TICs
Remain current on all training required within the department and the casino
Maintains high levels of confidentiality at all time to protect employees and the organization
Other duties as assigned or requested by management

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledgeable of Federal/state/Tribal Employment laws and regulations.
Knowledge of the operation of a variety of computer software, including word processing, and spreadsheet applications.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, facilitation, conflict and mediation skills.
Ability to research, collect data and present reports.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; skill in working in an environment subject to constant interruptions and quickly changing priorities; ability to prioritize.
Ability to comprehend and explain applicable policies, procedures, laws, codes and regulations.
Ability to function in a professional manner during high stress situations.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to maintain effective working relationships with staff, vendors, Board members, and the public, both in person and through phone, e-mail and written correspondence.
Ability to learn quickly, self-leader with initiative, highly flexible and comfortable in a constantly changing environment.
Ability to respond to visual and oral cues.
Excellent observation skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities

No direct supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands

Required to walk, stand, sit and move about the property for long periods of time.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.
Must be able to move quickly and/or run to assist employees or guests during an injury, fall, disturbance, etc.
Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, twist and grip items when necessary.
Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the casino.
Must be able to pass a physical.

Work Environment

Indoor/Outdoor; exposure to internal and external environmental conditions.
Exposure to smoking and secondhand smoke.
Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays.
Noise level can range from minimal to intense.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma (or equivalent combination of education and experience combined).
Must have good writing and spelling skills.
Must successfully complete CPR and Active Shooter courses within one year.
Two (2) years casino experience preferred.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must possess a valid drivers license.
CLEET Certification may be required.
Must pass a writing and math test.
Must be able to pass a physical examination and drug screen.
Must be able to pass a background check and obtain a key gaming license.
