As a Customs and Border Protection Officer (CBPO), you will be part of our 60,000+ workforce that strives to protect the American people by safeguarding our borders, deterring illicit activity, and enhancing the nation’s economic prosperity. Typical assignments include:

Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations.

Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel.

Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances.

Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States.

Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband.

Duty Locations – Incentives available for some locations. You will be asked to provide your location preference from the list, which includes various locations across the U.S. and territories. If no vacancies are available at your preferred location, you may be assigned elsewhere based on operational needs.

Salary, Incentives, and Benefits:
The annual base salary varies by grade level, with additional incentives such as overtime pay and location-based recruitment incentives. Benefits include health, dental, retirement plans, and paid leave. Location incentives of 15%-25% or 25% for certain locations are available for the first few years of employment.

Qualifications:

To qualify at different grade levels (GS-5, GS-7, GS-9), candidates must meet specific experience or education requirements, detailed in the original description. Prior law enforcement or military experience can qualify candidates for higher grades.

Other Requirements: U.S. citizenship, residency, age restrictions, veterans’ preference, and completion of required training are mandatory. Candidates will attend a paid pre-academy orientation and a 101-day training program at FLETC.
