About the Sustainability Team, DIO Strategy & Plans (S&P) Capability
Within Capability, the Sustainability Team is a leader in driving climate change and sustainability activity in DIO. Sustainability and Net Zero carry a high profile in the organisation, and the team have a key role in deploying the MOD Climate Change and Sustainability Strategic Approach (Epochs 1 – 3) to 2050, forthcoming MOD Climate Change and Sustainability Strategy, and getting the department on the pathway to achieve the Greening Government Commitment targets.
The Sustainability team is a key leader in driving climate change & sustainability activity in DIO. The team provides oversight, coherence, and co-ordination of the delivery of sustainability activity with key customers from across both DIO and the wider defence infrastructure enterprise.
The post provides excellent exposure into the core of Sustainability activities across the business and also exposure across a number of TLB’s with an opportunity to build a fantastic network. Job DescriptionSummary of the Role
The post holder will be an integral part of the DIO Sustainability team. It will be focused on supporting the implementation of the Defence Approach to Sustainable Infrastructure (DASI) across the Ministry of Defence.
DASI tracks, manages, and measures the benefits of MOD’s estate-related sustainability activity to ensure that resources are being utilised optimally, lessons shared, efforts are not being duplicated, and outcomes are being achieved.
To enhance estate resilience and maximise cost effectiveness, DASI is coordinating and supporting the delivery of priority areas, such as, Climate Adaptation, Energy Security and Resilience, Decarbonisation of Heating, Water Security and Resilience and Legislative compliance (such as Nature Recovery and Biodiversity Net Gain).
This role will initially be responsible for delivering against the Climate Adaptation line of effort. The role holder will be responsible for collaborating with internal SME’s and TLB’s to ensure that the practical action that is required to mitigate/adapt to the effects of climate change on the Defence Estate is delivered. The role holder will also be responsible for understanding the outputs from horizon scanning activities to ensure that Defence can influence change as well as be proactive of any changes/new legislation or drivers that might impact how we work/live and train on the estate.
