Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for a Director of Safety and Security to oversee our School Security division at a client’s site in New York. The Director of Safety and Security assists the district with its mission to provide the highest quality ofeducationby providing for the safety and security of all students, staff, and property.
Essential Responsibilities
Serve as Incident Command for all emergencies
Serve as the school’s liaison to the local Police Department, Fire Department, and other law enforcement and emergency management related agencies
Be on-call 24/7 to respond to and/or coordinate safety and security emergencies, including weather-related events
Supervise all Campus Safety Officers and Security Managers (CSOs)
Serve as subject-matter expert on security and crime-related issues and maintain best practice information relative to safety and security
Create and issue department policies
Lead investigations of criminal or other internal matters
Schedule and lead school-required drills – Lockdown, Emergency Evacuation, and Severe Weather Drills
Manage portable radio equipment, dispatch console and software, card access and access levels, cameras, software, and video footage
Display the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the schools
Create and present safety presentations to parents – both campuses
Incollaborationwith school administration, administer the Safety and Security budget to ensure safety and security in the school and by the most cost-effective utilization of resources
Assist with threat assessments of students, staff, and faculty
Provide safety and security presentations for summer program staff
Adhere to federal statutes and regulations, school law, Board ofEducationrules and regulations, School Committee policies and procedures, and contractual obligations
Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned by the National Director of Security
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Preferred:
Have at least five (5) years of relevant experience in safety and/or security required in a school environment, preferably a tuition-charging private or public school within an urban district
At least three (3) years supervisory experience, including assigning, managing, and evaluating staff required
At least three (3) years recent successfulleadershipor administrator experience in a field relevant to the position required
Experience developing and managing budgets
Have extensive work with law enforcement agencies
Be able to work with police and safety personnel as well as school district staff; beteam-orientedwhile capable of working independently; and demonstrate the ability to work effectively with administrators, teachers, staff, and parents in adiverseschool community
Ability to work in afast-paced environmentwith time-sensitive deadlines
Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills
Ability to exercise sound judgment and manage multiple tasks and priorities
