PrimaryPurpose:
Establishes and administers security regulations and procedures to protect students, staff, and property; organizes, schedules, performs, and documents state-mandated security audits to ensure the safety and security of all district facilities; responsible for the supervision of all school security officers, acts as liaison to school resource officers and municipalities; coordinates with all school campuses to perform mandatory emergency drills; ensures enforcement of all federal, state, and local laws, and ordinances and coordinates with outside law enforcement agencies.
Qualifications:
Education and Certification:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent related experience will be considered)
Texas Peace Officer License issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
Bonded as required by TexasEducationCode §37.081(h)
Clear and valid Texas driver’s license
Experience:
Three (3) years of law enforcement experience in a supervisory or command capacity
Three (3) years of experience as a fully commissioned police officer
Three (3) years of experience involving knowledge and application of federal, state, county, and city laws and regulations as they apply to toxic and controlled substances
Experience in a school setting (preferred)
Special Knowledge and Skills:
Strong public relations, organizational,communication, and interpersonal skills
Comprehensive knowledge of school safety procedures, criminal law, and report writing
Ability to problem-solve, innovate, and adapt indynamicsituations
Training and ability to subdue offenders, including use of firearms
Ability to pass required physical, psychiatric, and drug tests
Must possess strongleadershipskills and capacity
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Safety and Compliance:
Serve as the primary liaison between school resource officers, districtleadership, and external law enforcement agencies. Ensure the district complies with all federal, state, and local safety and security regulations.
Maintain written policies and procedures to ensure the district’s compliance with safety regulations.
Maintain records as required by federal, state, and local agencies for all regulations and legislation.
Stay informed of changes to federal and state safety laws and provide technical guidance to ensure compliance.
Advisesenior leadershipon safety-related concerns, identifying potential risks and recommending solutions.
Audits and Emergency Preparedness:
Conduct state-mandated safety and security audits for all district facilities.
Present audit findings and actionable recommendations to the Board of Trustees and Safety and Security Committee.
Monitor and ensure timely implementation of corrective actions based on audit findings.
Oversee the coordination and execution of mandatory emergency drills across all campuses, ensuring compliance withsafety protocols.
