REPORTS TO: Roxbury Principals and Hotel GM’s as major clients

POSITION PURPOSE
Manage the Security function of Roxbury properties and community interests to (i) ensure a safe and secure environment for its guests and property team members; (ii) serve as a proactive liaison with the DPD, Downtown Detroit Partnership and community to advance new policies and improvements relating to law enforcement in the CBD; and (iii) oversee the activities and effectiveness of the hotels’ security team members and provide them motivational leadership.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as the primary on-property security officer during evening hours and key events
Screen, interview, select, manage, review and counsel hourly security staff.
Develop and build strong working relationships with neighborhood businesses, hotel management teams, and local stakeholders.
Maintain contacts and strong relationships with DPD neighborhood officers and downtown leadership.
Diplomatically manage challenging interpersonal situations with the homeless or mentally ill population on property, as needed.
Implement effective patrolling schedules and routines for Roxbury properties and the Grand Circus Park area to manage the daily activities of all security efforts. Plan and assign posts, organize work, and schedule staff members to ensure proper coverage.
Attend community meetings and participate on calls with DPD, DDP, and other stakeholders as requested to advance security and enforcement initiatives in the CBD.
Review greenlight and internal security camera footage as needed to help identify and prosecute illegal activity.
Promote safe work practices. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
Provide security team members with appropriate training (including fire life safety, CPR, and workplace violence) and help ensure compliance with all hotel loss control policies (such as credit card fraud) and current security and safety regulations.
Determine the security and safety requirements necessary to ensure that hotels, staff members, and guests are protected against theft, crime, and threats on a 24-hour per day/7-day a week basis.
Establish documentation and confidential reporting systems to ensure that appropriate investigation documentation and results are available for prosecution and proper record retention.
Attend and participate in required hotel meetings.
Gather information and document significant events in the form of official incident reports.
Keep ownership informed of all major incidents, events, and VIP appearances.
Inform hotel management of hazardous situations, emergencies, or threats to the security of guests, staff members, or hotel assets and document all major incidents.
Oversee and maintain various technical equipment, hardware, and software, to ensure it is functioning properly. Back up all databases on a regular schedule.
Respond to emergency situations. Investigate and document all occurrences in incident reports.
Serve as the first point of contact for emergency agencies such as, but not limited to, police department or fire department.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
· Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to four (6) hours in length.
Must be able to exert a well-paced ability to travel on foot between properties throughout the shift.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.
· Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs.
Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening, and hearing ability and visual acuity.
Hearing, smelling, tasting, and visual ability to observe and distinguish product quality and detect signs of emergency situations.
Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with other staff, guests, and supervisors.
Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near and color vision and depth perception.
Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks occasionally.
Must have finger dexterity to be able to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, 10-key adding machines, multi-line touch tone phones, filing cabinets, FAX machines, photocopiers, dollies, and other office equipment as needed.
· Ability to work primarily with fingers to pick, pinch, type, and carry out substantial movements (motions) of the wrists and hands as well.

Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language used in the workplace.
Requires excellent communication and interpersonal verbal skills. Solid writing and technology skills are also important.
Must have excellent leadership capability and customer relations skills.
Must be detail oriented and organized.
Must possess basic computer skills.
· Must be reliable and immediately accessible to ownership and Managing Director by phone or text at all times, 24-7.
Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy and collect accurate information to resolve conflicts.
Knowledgeable about basic functions of Windows OS, MS Office, PMS, PBX, Key system, and POS.
Self-driven and able to work independently.
Exceptionally strong in issue resolution and proven analytical skills with a strong attention to detail.
Proficient knowledge of capabilities and usage of all security operating systems and conduct inspections.
Knowledge and performance of security control administrative duties, such as; maintaining daily key, radio, and activity logs.
Knowledge and proper application of communication/emergency codes and procedures.
Working knowledge of local laws, investigation methods, OSHA requirements and fire codes and life safety codes.
Problem solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational and training abilities are used when an emergency situation occurs.
EDUCATION
College degree preferred, but must have high school diploma or equivalent..
EXPERIENCE
5 years of law enforcement and/or loss prevention experience
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS
Obtain certification as a CPR Instructor.
Must have valid driver’s license, clean driving record and reliable transportation.
GROOMING
All Staff Members must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance. Coat and tie are standard dress code for this position. Refer to the property specific required grooming and uniform standards policy.
ATTENDANCE
Dependable, reliable attendance is essential to the successful performance of this position. Staff with irregular attendance / tardiness will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. Upon employment, all staff is required to fully comply with hotel rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the hotel’s facilities. It is expected that an afternoon or night shift is required for this position. Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, there may be a varying schedule from time to time to reflect the business needs of the hotels (for example, opening day of baseball season). In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.
