This is a FIELD SERGEANT position.
The mission of the Department of Corrections is to be a public safety resource for Arkansas families by providing professional management solutions and evidence-based rehabilitative initiatives for offenders.
All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive Positions and are subject to random drug testing pursuant to the Secretarial Directive governing Personnel Drug Testing. Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, prohibits Personnel in a Safety-Sensitive Position from the use of medical marijuana even if they are qualifying patients under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card.
Department Personnel are prohibited from the use or possession of a medicinal marijuana card pursuant to this policy and state law.

Salary Range: $45,010.00 – $71,792.00
Summary
The Arkansas Department of Correction/Department of Community Correction (ADC/DCC) Correctional Sergeant is responsible for guarding and directing work of inmates, supervising correctional officers, observing resident behavior, and documenting records as required. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.
Functions
Schedules, distributes, and guides work assignments of staff; supervises inmates by instructing on work tasks, issuing tools, and maintaining discipline; monitors inmates using various methods including riding a horse if necessary; conducts inmate counts; maintains logs; investigates incidents; and performs security checks. Transports inmates to various locations for work, medical, or meals; assists with visitation and inspects living areas for safety and cleanliness.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Dimensions
Frequent shift work, exposure to danger, and emergency on-call duties may be required.
Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of department policies, public safety methods, characteristics of human behavior; ability to assign and monitor work; perform security inspections; write reports; supervise inmates; conduct investigations; and exercise self-defense tactics.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; plus two years of correctional security or law enforcement experience, including one year in a leadership role. Additional qualifications may be required and reviewed by the Office of Personnel Management. Other related education or experience may substitute for these requirements upon approval.
