We have an opportunity for you to join us as a Security Guard Supervisor. In this role, you will provide supervision to security officers who provide protection and security to residents, staff, and the general public at the Western State Hospital.

The work shifts are rotational as well as the days off.

Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary. Pierce County employees receive a free Orca card for transportation use. Evening and Night shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate.

This Security Guard 3 position’s primary job duties would develop training materials and be responsible for training all incoming and existing Security Guards within the Gage Center. The position would ensure officers are remaining in compliance with all mandatory training requirements such as Advanced Crisis Intervention Training (ACIT), Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Basic Life Safety (BLS), while also providing in-service trainings yearly. This position would be responsible for developing and operating a Security Officer Academy that would provide consistent training materials in conjunction with policies, procedure, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This position would provide relief to the other SG3’s for vacations, sick calls, other coverage issues and will be required to run normal shift operations. This position will have a flexible schedule to work all shifts, whether it be covering for other SG3’s or providing training to other shifts.

Some of what you’ll do
Supervise and assist security staff
Escort clients to and from medical appointments
Plan, coordinate, direct, and control security activities, responses, and actions
Communicate with hospital management, supervisors, security, and other hospital staff through memo reports, surveys, and evaluations
Supervise and participate in making rounds of campus facilities, buildings, and grounds, by foot and by vehicle
Respond to life and death emergencies and assist law enforcement, fire, and/or other agencies
Assist in traffic control
Confiscate, secure, and preserve contraband and evidence
Plan and provide specific shift work schedules
Provide counseling to subordinates to resolve disputes, discrepancies, and conflicts
Conduct monthly check-ins with subordinates and complete monthly reports or other assigned administrative duties as needed

Who should apply
Professionals with a high school diploma or GED and three years of experience in areas of work such as security guard, correctional officer, store investigator, police officer, police reserve officer, military police, or other law enforcement work. (A certificate of completion in a basic law enforcement training program approved by the Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission, or a certificate of completion in a police or reserve police academy or military training program will substitute for one of the three years of the above experience).

Three years of experience as a Security Guard 1

OR

Two years of experience as a Security Guard 2

Two years of training experience is required
