POSITION DESCRIPTION: Candidate is responsible for schooling horses in the morning, set up gate for the start of each race and ensure the best start possible. Candidate will teach and familiarize young horses with the gate to break and school horses on the starter’s list. Candidate will set gate on track, responsible for numbers on gate, rake tire tracks before and after the race, proper procedures for getting gate on and off track each race, move starting stands to each starting distance, make equipment changes on the horse, load and handle horses for each race, and assist in loading horses that pull up during and after the race. Candidate will contribute to the Racing Department team by overseeing and accomplishing all other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Candidate must be hard working and motivated ability to work in a team environment. Candidate must have previous experience in either riding or handling horses. Candidate must have previous starting gate experience and knowledge of related PA Racing Rules. Candidate is required to be able to obtain/maintain a Pennsylvania Racing License.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or equivalent.
