About the Job:
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent/Vice President Technology and University Center Operations, the Executive Director, Campus Safety performs a variety of responsible and complex duties related to the management and operations of the District’s Campus Safety department. The Executive Director provides strategic direction and
leadership
to create and implement a vision that integrates the principles of community policing into a comprehensive Campus Safety department, fostering a safe and
inclusive
environment at all District facilities.
Plans, organizes, coordinates, and supervises campus safety operations including planning,
budget management
, staffing, evaluation, preventative patrol, incident response, crowd control, parking enforcement, traffic control, and building security. Serves as a member of the District Incident Command team supporting District emergency preparedness efforts. Participates as a member of the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and coordinates the District’s Air Quality Management District (AQMD) program.
The Executive Director will lead with an equity lens in working with all constituencies and ensure departmental training for staff to support individuals from all backgrounds.

Job Duties:
• Supervises and provides
leadership
to assigned permanent and hourly staff including hiring, evaluating, disciplining, training, developing work schedules, coordinating duties and issuing assignments.
• Oversee the daily operations of the Campus Safety office, ensuring
efficient workflow
and effective training and cross-training of staff for seamless office coverage.
• Develops and implements written community and evidence-based departmental procedures aligned with Board Policies, Administrative Procedures, and
Collective Bargaining
Agreements to ensure uniformity and consistency of the operation and the services rendered.
• Provides
leadership
by exemplifying a community policing model that embodies a “Guardian” mindset, prioritizing the creation and strengthening of positive relationships between Campus Safety officers and the campus community.
• Protects and preserves the physical safety of students, employees and campus visitors.
• Participates as needed in patrol, enforcement, and providing security for events and gatherings.
• Responsible to carry and use non-lethal weapons when necessary to defend themselves or others.
• Administers and organizes the Campus Safety Department including the processing and filing of all applicable records.
• Research, analyze and compile statistics and information from various sources related to areas of responsibility.
• Oversees investigations and coordinates with appropriate individuals within the District, and with appropriate external agencies and organizations as necessary.
• Develops and maintains a close
collaborative
working relationship with departments, committees, employees, and students.
