As Carrollwood Day School continues to grow, we are adding a new position for a dynamic officer to join our Security team. The ideal candidate will have a strong law enforcement, security, or military background, be passionate about maintaining a safe and protected environment, and will easily form meaningful connections with students throughout their academic journey. This position will be a 12-month, salaried non-exempt position eligible for overtime.

The Position of Armed Security Officer:

As a cooperative member of the Security Department, provide a safe atmosphere for students, faculty and staff, and visitors while on our campuses.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Support and advance the Mission of the School
Make rounds of school grounds and parking areas per the team schedule; observed employees, students and visitors in order to ensure a safe environment and ensure all access points are secure
Be attentive and responsive to the radio while on shift to communicate with team members, especially in emergent situations
Direct and/or assist with traffic flow during student drop-off, pick-up, and campus events; set traffic control devices as necessary
Own and properly maintain a 9mm weapon within a 3-point holster; possess and demonstrate the demeanor and judgment to carry and utilize the weapon appropriately
Check parent and visitor identification and authorization information
Monitor campus for environmental hazards, illegal activities and vandalism; report and/or take corrective action as required by school policy
Ensure compliance with parking policy by checking permits and decals
Assist persons with vehicle problems, such as dead batteries
Record information regarding security and monitoring activity; maintain logs and write incident reports
Assist with safety training of school employees and students, as needed and required
Be an active member of the Security Department, and the greater CDS community
Attend all Security Team meetings and required training, and all school meetings and trainings
Model and foster non-discriminatory practices and a global mindset
Be a role model of integrity and professionalism
Be a team player; cheerfully participate in and/or assist with pick-up and drop-off, safety drills, extracurricular on-campus events, and other duties and routines regularly part of a K-12 independent school environment
Maintain regular and punctual attendance requirements, including all home Football games and other on-campus events as needed
Adhere to School policies as described in the Employee Handbook and other materials

Qualifications and Attributes Needed for Success:

High school diploma or GED required
Experience in one or more of the following: law enforcement, private security, US military (with honorable discharge), or served as a school resource officer
Have and maintain a D Security License and G Security License
Physical requirements include, but are not limited to the ability to:
Sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time
Run shorter distances including up and down the stairs
Engage in physical confrontation regardless of the climatic conditions (day, night, etc)
Satisfactorily complete a pre-determined physical agility evaluation
Vision must be correctable to 20/20 eyesight
Demonstrated experience and skill with the following:
Use of force
Emergency response and building searches
A mentality of prevailing vs. surviving
Handcuffing and restraint devices
Weapons retention
Fundamentals of firearms marksmanship
Tactical weapons handling
Active shooter response for armed officers
First Aid/ AED & CPR and crisis casualty care
Strong collaborative skills and eagerness to work with colleagues
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
Have an interest in engaging with the greater CDS community beyond the traditional school day
A high degree of professionalism, collegiality, and personal conduct both in and outside of school
Ability, willingness, and judgment to interact and communicate effectively and positively with all constituents in a school environment
Comfortable with ambiguity and change inherent in a school environment; willingness to adapt and pivot as needed
Enthusiasm and commitment to the vision and mission of the School
