MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
The Facility Security Officer (FSO) is responsible for implementing the company’s industrial security program and ensuring compliance with security requirements. The successful candidate will interface with all levels of Birdon America personnel and government security personnel to ensure contract security compliance with NISP, NISPOM, DD254, and other applicable guides.
The role requires a self-motivated individual capable of working independently or in a team, conducting security inspections, applying risk mitigation, supporting assessments, and implementing security measures.
Collaborate with leadership and the Government Security Committee to implement the security program according to NISPOM standards.
Manage Birdon’s security clearance program using NISS and DISS, and maintain clearances for employees.
Ensure documentation and information related to ITAR are monitored, controlled, and secured.
Develop and manage security training programs for all employees, including onboarding and annual refreshers.
Fulfill reporting requirements in NISS / DISS and conduct security reviews using DCSA checklists.
Participate in the Insider Threat Working Group supporting DODD 5205.16.
Report foreign travel and manage classified visit requests.
Serve as POC for DCSA communications and participate in security meetings.
Handle non-disclosure agreements and conduct security briefings and debriefings.
Manage export control programs, including ITAR data security and licensing requirements.
Ensure compliance with export licensing obligations and maintain related documentation.
EXPERIENCE :
Minimum 5 years in Industrial Security, preferably in maritime industry.
Ability to retain a secret clearance as required by DSCA.
FSO certification with at least 5 years of experience.
Ability to work independently and communicate effectively across the organization.
EDUCATION :
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ security-related experience.
Citizenship : Must be a U.S. Citizen
Clearance Required : Active Secret Security clearance (current or transferable).
REQUIRED SKILLS :
Strong commitment to security and understanding of security policies.
Ability to interpret and apply security standards and policies.
Experience in security training, export control compliance, and communication skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS :
Location options include Denver CO or New Orleans LA, with 10% travel to program sites.
