Job Summary:

The Health Services Security Officer is responsible for protecting and securing the facility, premises, personnel, patients, equipment, and visitors by patrolling and monitoring surveillance equipment with a sharp eye. Helps facilitate emergency communications within healthcare facilities. Investigates security breaches, incidents, and other alarming behaviors while also preventing losses or damage.

Job Duties:

Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Assists with incoming phone calls. Facilitates communication within the facility and assists with callbacks of medical personnel. Opens secure areas for employees to work. Monitors closed circuit monitors and responds to intrusion and duress alarms. Responds to medical gas and refrigerator alarms. Provides a secure environment within the facility for staff, patients, and visitors. Coordinates emergency personnel during disaster conditions. Secures and protects possible crime scenes, dispatch officers to calls, and responds to calls requiring assistance. Restrains rowdy, belligerent, violent, intoxicated, and emotionally disturbed patients and visitors through the use of non-violent crisis intervention or by the use of force if necessary for the purpose of treatment or incarceration. Maintains security logs, documents, and files related to investigations and other activities relevant to facility security. Prepares incident reports during each tour of duty for review by the supervisor. Monitors and communicates with Marshal Service, local police, sheriff, fire departments, ambulance, and emergency management civil defense when emergencies occur to ensure preparedness by the Health Facilities for any disaster situation that may develop. Assists with disaster training for Health Services staff. Maintains a thorough knowledge of laws on a federal, state, tribal, and city level about activities within the facility; including knowledge of the departmental policies and procedures. Responds to motorists needing assistance. Provides security for patients’ personal effects.

Armed Security Officer Only:

Armed Security License shall be at least twenty-one (21) years of age. Infractions are to be thoroughly investigated and properly documented. Our ideal candidate has military, law enforcement, or security experience. Must pass firearms qualifications annually. Ensuring that the weapon is well maintained and secure at all times. Utilizing your weapon in time of extreme attack, when non-violent options have been exhausted. Ensuring that security equipment and measures are suitable and that they remain in excellent working conditions at all times.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

No experience is required.

Armed Security Officer Only:

At least two (2) years of experience in a related field; no exceptions.

COMPUTER SKILLS

An individual should have knowledge of Databases, Internet, Word Processing software, and Order processing systems.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid driver’s license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or must obtain within ninety (90) days of hire. Once hired Defensive Tactics and Taser recertification shall be attended on an annual basis. Must possess the basic CLEET or FLETC certification for unarmed security and maintain it throughout employment or must obtain it within ninety (90) days of hire. Must complete continuing education units/requirements. May possess certification of security training awarded by the U.S. Armed Forces.

Armed Security Officer Only:

Must possess the basic CLEET certification for armed security and maintain it throughout employment. Must obtain a Commission card from Cherokee Nation Marshall Services for authorization to carry a firearm on Cherokee Nation property.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Must be able to communicate effectively with individuals on “one on one” bases in order to de-escalate stressful situations. Must comply with Cherokee Nation Health Services Policies and Procedures. Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care. Working knowledge is also required of the general health care safety policy.

Armed Security Officer Only:

Must meet and maintain periodic background adjudication for law enforcement.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; risk of radiation and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
