The University of Iowa Health Care department ofSafety and Securityis seeking aHospital Security Officerto perform duties needed to maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the buildings and grounds of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Provide exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff entering the hospital
Assist with way finding and information to patients, visitors, and staff
Perform security checks, patrol facility, and monitor special assignments
Conduct incident investigations and provide documentation for follow-up
Respond to and assist in all incidents regarding safety and security
Respond to lock/unlock doors, troubleshoot elevator problems and extricate as needed, and assist in traffic/parking enforcement
Respond to and resolve emergencies such as fire, Haz Mat, and security alarms
Provide security surveillance of institution, including psychiatric units
Maintain a working knowledge of computers to process data, operate fire alarm systems, and security systems
Escort to parking ramps and outlying areas
Provide effective oral and writtencommunication
Enforce all institution policies and procedures
Ability to walk and climb stairs.
Ability to lift and carry fifty pounds.
Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.
Ability to see and hear accurately in both day and nighttime conditions.
Percent of Time:100%
Schedule:2nd or 3rd shift available
Starting Salary:$18.35/hour plus shift differential and potential overtime

Minimum Eligibility Requirements
Two years’ experience in security and safety, or fire safety, or law enforcement; or
One year of post-high schooleducationrelated to security and safety and one year of experience in security and safety; or
Two years of post-high schooleducationrelated to security and safety
Possession of appropriate driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
Ability to obtain basic certification from International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 6 months of hire and maintain certification for duration of employment.
Two years of customer service experience
Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer software applications (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc)
Exceptional written and verbalcommunication skills
Key Training/Compliances:
IAHSS Basic Online Course to be completed within 6 months of start date
Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) 8 hour – to be completed in first 90 days
Health Safety Professional (HSP) – to be completed in first 90 days
