Job Description
Job/Position Title: Security Officer Status: Non-exempt Date: February 2025
Primary Purpose: Responsible for providing 24/7 security and a safe environment for all staff, Veterans, volunteers, guests, and dogs at the Liberty Dogs facility. Under the supervision of the Security Director.
Essential Duties/Functions:
1. Conduct scheduled and randomized patrols inside and outside the facility to deter threats and establish security presence.
2. Monitor and authorize vehicle and personnel entry; enforce access control policies. Manage trespassing incidents following company protocols and law enforcement coordination.
3. Ensure that all exits, doors, and windows are secure throughout the day/night and at the end of each shift, and set alarms as needed.
4. Monitor surveillance cameras to identify disruptions and/or unwanted visitors.
5. Respond to all alarms and take appropriate action depending on the situation.
6. Ensure the security, safety, and well-being of all personnel, visitors, and dogs. Provide assistance to personnel, visitors, and dogs, including first-aid/CPR if trained and deemed necessary.
7. Detain individuals involved in security incidents following legal and company protocols until law enforcement arrives.
8. Maintains current knowledge of all local, state, and federal regulations and internal Security department policies and procedures.
9. Protect the company’s assets relative to theft, assault, fire, and other safety issues.
10. Follow procedures for various initiatives, including fire prevention, property patrol, traffic control, and accident investigations.
11. Attend security briefings and meetings.
12. Comply with the confidentiality policy regarding releasing or disclosing organizational information that might be used in judicial and administrative proceedings.
13. Submit daily activity reports and incident reports for review by the Security Director.
14. Address and/or report and correct any safety hazards or unsafe use of Liberty Dogs equipment.
Other Duties:
15. Engage with coworkers and volunteers in a professional and respectful manner to foster collaboration and maintain efficient security operations.
16. Attend regularly scheduled team meetings to ensure successful team communication.
17. Attend departmental and facility-wide meetings, as well as required security-related training (e.g., emergency response, conflict de-escalation, first aid).
18. Assist in disaster preparedness and response, including evacuation procedures, perimeter security, and emergency coordination with staff.
19. Understand emergency response plans (fire, power outage, earthquake, active shooter, bomb threat, etc.).
20. Understand infectious disease controls defined by the organization and take action to help protect guest Veterans, staff, visitors and dogs.
21. Responsible for overall cleanliness and organization of personal and relevant work areas.
22. Maintain clear and timely communication with the Security Director regarding security incidents, operational concerns, and policy updates.
23. Presents a positive and professional image of Liberty Dogs to the public.
24. Perform additional duties, as assigned by the Security Director, within the scope of security operations and company policies.
Working Conditions: Indoors and outdoors, as needed.
Equipment Used: Utilizes common office equipment, including computers, printers, phones, and copiers, for administrative tasks. Operates hand-held radios, cellular phones, iPads and surveillance equipment for communication and monitoring. Responsible for the safe operation of company vehicles as needed for security patrols and incident response.
Work Hours: This is a flexible hourly position requiring regular and predictable attendance. Security Officers work full-time 40-hour week on an assigned shift to ensure 24/7 coverage. Each officer is designated to one of three fixed shifts—morning, evening, or overnight. Some shifts include weekends and holidays as part of their regular assignment. Schedules are subject to change, and emergency situations may require extended hours or overtime.
*Please Note: We are currently hiring for the overnight shift. Our campus is under construction, and some essential job duties may be slightly different until the facility is fully operational. Additionally, work schedules and shift assignments may change once we transition to the permanent campus. We are looking for adaptable team members who are willing to grow with us as we complete this exciting phase!
Mental Demands: This position requires the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities with a high level of alertness and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and the ability to think clearly and act quickly under pressure are essential. The role demands self-discipline, self-motivation, and sound judgment, particularly when handling confidential information. Effective reading, writing, and comprehension skills are required to follow both written and oral instructions.
Physical Demands: This position primarily requires physical activity throughout the shift, including walking, standing, and bending. While desk and computer work are part of the role, the ability to remain active is essential. The position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. or more, and to maintain an efficient work pace as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
Previous experience as a security officer, guard, or related field preferred. Security certifications (e.g., Guard card, CPR, first aid) are a plus.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with keen observational abilities for identifying security risks.
Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor at all times, adhering to uniform and grooming standards.
Goal-oriented, self-starter with the ability to take initiative and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Experience with security-related databases, surveillance systems, and internet research is preferred but not required.
In accordance with safety-sensitive position standards, candidates must successfully pass a background check, possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, and complete a post-offer drug screening. Additionally, candidates must be able to operate company vehicles as part of their job responsibilities.

Additional Qualifications that would benefit this position:
o Veteran status preferred, particularly with prior experience in the VA, military police, or related security roles.
o Previous experience and/or training in law enforcement, security, first responder roles, or a related field.
o Strong technical skills, with experience in surveillance systems preferred.
o Knowledge of security and safety regulations, including legal guidelines for area security and fire inspection procedures.
o CPR, AED, and First Aid certification preferred.
o Experience in animal welfare or handling is a plus.
o Bilingual abilities are preferred.

Pay: $49,000.00 – $65,000.00 per year
