JOB TITLE SUMMARY
Job Title: Investigator, Public Safety

Job Summary
The Lindenwood University public safety investigator conducts general criminal, sexual misconduct, Title IX and student conduct investigations. Title IX and sexual misconduct investigations may include gender discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault, sexual exploitation, dating violence, domestic/intimate partner violence, and stalking. When not conducting investigations, this position will work assigned public safety officer duties as directed.
Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

Job Responsibilities and Execution
Conducts investigations for any campus incidents that involve possible criminal violations
Reviews and audits case reports submitted by public safety officers and conducts appropriate follow up as directed
Prepares detailed written reports of activities, and works closely with the appropriate personnel to prepare university reports
Prepares investigative materials in accordance with Lindenwood’s Sexual Misconduct Policy
Conducts interviews and collects written statements and any relevant evidence
Reviews camera footage, access logs and other relevant data
Prepares professional, detailed, and complete case reports
Assembles reports and other documentation in a logical and coherent fashion
When necessary, provides testimony or written affidavits in student code of conduct, administrative, and Title IX hearings

Communication, Collaboration, and Teamwork
Works closely with on-campus departments as well as off-campus police and criminal justice agencies to successfully bring cases to resolution
Works closely with the Title IX coordinator for investigations specific to sexual misconduct and Title IX cases
While conducting sexual misconduct investigations, works closely with the Title IX coordinator to determine proper investigative course and timely investigations
Assists the Clery compliance coordinator in maintaining Clery Act records
Assists with student and staff training regarding Title IX and Clery Compliance violations
Collaborates in the preparing and distribution of campus safety alerts, as needed
Job may require other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications – Required qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. (Additional requirements may be designated by position.)
Bachelor’s degree required or POST certification required
Valid driver’s license required
Minimum of 1 years’ experience as a law enforcement officer required
Minimum of 1 years’ experience conducting administrative and criminal investigations required
Firearm proficiency as well as ability to meet St. Charles County licensing qualifications to carry a department issued firearm while on-duty
Must obtain CPR and First Aid certifications
Must complete a psychological evaluation and drug screen upon a conditional offer of employment
Master’s degree in criminal justice or a related field preferred
Experience as a criminal or civil investigator preferred
Experience as a public safety officer in higher education preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the job competently.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
Demonstrated knowledge of Missouri Criminal Code and rules of criminal procedure
Working Knowledge of Title IX Investigations and/or certification or progressive training on sexual misconduct.
Understanding of Title IX, VAWA, the Clery Act and Annual Security Reports.
Working knowledge of the Lindenwood University security camera system.
Working knowledge of the daily crime log reporting system
Ability to use good judgment, think critically and solve problems
Ability to respond to hostile situations, intervene in physical altercations and act as mediator
Ability to work with large groups of students, including students with special needs
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must be able to remain calm while responding during emergencies
Strong personal integrity
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
