Job Description
We offer a merit-basedwork-from-homeprogram based on job responsibilities. After initial training in-person, this specific role could have theflexibilitytowork from homeup to 3 days per week.
Please note that we are not currently hiring fully remote positions. All candidates must have the ability to work in one of our tech offices from time to time. Our tech offices for this role are in Lansing, and Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Auto-Owners Insurance, a top-rated insurance carrier, is seeking a motivated individual to join our IT Division as an IT Security Architect. This position is part of the IT Security department and is responsible for leading efforts to reduce IT Security risk for the company and its affiliates.
The position requires the person to:
Design, evaluate, administer, upgrade, optimize, troubleshoot, and implement various IT security products/applications used by the Company and its affiliates
Research and recommend mitigation controls for cybersecurity risks in accordance with the Company’s and its affiliates’ policies and industry best practices, including making recommendations toleadershipregarding best security practices
Monitor and advise on IT security issues related to the Company’s and its affiliates’ systems to ensure internal security controls are appropriate and operating as intended
Lead the selection, implementation, and/or architectural design of new IT security technology or a major IT security product/application upgrade and ensure information protection requirements are considered, established, and incorporated
Provide guidance on incidents and alerts that have been escalated by others on the team
Act as a lead administrator for at least one security product/application
Represent the IT security department on various committees throughout the Company
Write, comprehend, maintain, and peer review department procedures and documentation as well as security policies, guidelines, and procedures that are published company-wide
Act as the lead incident handler when coordinating a response to complex security incidents. This includes:
Gathering evidence, documenting incidents in accordance with department procedures, determining root cause, and initiating corrective action
Providing status updates toleadershipor other team members
Escalating incidents and alerts to vendors, team members,leadership, or other internal teams as necessary
Desired Skills and Experience
A four-year college degree in Information Security, Information Security and Assurance, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred. Candidates without a four-year degree, but with several years of relevant experience, may also be considered.
High levels of initiative, motivation, andleadership
Ability to effectively share knowledge about several of the following areas: security engineering, server security, network security, cloud security, authentication methods, encryption protocols, application security, cyber-attacks and techniques, threat vectors, and risk management
Ability to learn and effectively use the security tools and security development techniques required by the job
