Museum SOC Security Officer (Armed Position) Jobs in Washington, DC at National Museum of Women in the Arts

General Position Summary:

Museum Security Officers will have a strong background in law enforcement and are a visible security presence, providing armed protection to visitors, staff, the works of art, and the museum’s facilities.

Major Responsibilities:
The (SOC) Security Officer will work in coordination with the Security Manager, Entry Screening Officer and Gallery Guards to ensure the smooth operation of the overall security program at NMWA.

The responsibilities of the Security Operations Center (SOC) Security Officer include, but are not limited to:
Security Operations Center (SOC) primary museum access entry control officer
Operation of electronic access control systems including surveillance cameras and software, arming and disarming intrusion detection system, electronic attendance monitoring and documentation and automated scheduling program
Deterring unauthorized persons from touching, handling, defacing, or otherwise tampering with works of art and/or museum property
Enforcement of general museum policies to ensure the security and safety of its employees, visitors and art collections.
Intake of parcels and packages per established security procedures
Assist in building evacuation and preservation of art collections in times of emergency.
Monitor and immediately report potential safety violations, critical incidents, and unusual or suspicious activity.
Interact with visitors by providing general and way finding information in a pleasant and responsive way.
Perform light housekeeping duties and generally assist in maintaining a presentable environment for visitors.
Maintain radio communications with coworkers and supervisors during your assigned work shift.
Support the mission of the museum in all activities.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum high school diploma, preferably some college with focus on criminal justice studies or law enforcement
Current or former law enforcement officer with current DMV Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act HR-218 handgun permit, or a current DC concealed carry permit.
Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, be detailed oriented, and have satisfactory literacy and writing, documentation, communications and interpersonal abilities.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff and museum visitors.
Ability to understand and follow standard operating procedures, to perform duties in a professional manner and appearance.
Ability to make independent and good judgment decisions within proper policy and procedures.
Be able to work independently, responsibly and without supervision.
Former law enforcement experience required.
Prefer a good working knowledge of security operations, safety practices in a museum environment and relevant enforcement procedures and policies.
