Overview:
Perform a variety of security and safety related functions while involved in the safeguarding of employees, patients, visitors, physicians, and property.
Protects building and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism or illegal entry
Periodically tours the facility to determine that possible entry points are secure and not tampered with
May respond to employee calls for assistance or escort to and from parking lot or building
May be assigned to one post or may constantly tour the facility
Responsibilities:
Perform a variety of duties to include, but not limited to floor patrols within the hospital and annex facilities. Walkthrough of NARMC main building every 4 hours or more often if needed.
Conduct campus patrols to include the parking lots. Identifies and issues appropriate warnings (or takes other appropriate actions) regarding loiters, skateboarders, suspicious persons, etc.
Consults with NARMC House Supervisor regarding issues requiring intervention of the Security Officer. May contact NARMC Administrator On Call (Executive Staff) as needed.
Communicates regularly with NARMC House Supervisor and NARMC Switchboard Operator. Officer will carry appropriate communications device(s) and respond appropriately to all calls.
Responsible for knowing and complying with all NARMC policies and procedures. Will respond to all NARMC Codes as appropriate.
Responds to emergencies such as, but not limited to, fires, emergency codes, disaster plan implementation, etc.
Responsible for locking / unlocking specified entrances/exits and performs access control duties.
Assist persons in locating areas within the hospital and will answer questions regarding locations of services.
Upon request, provide escort service to staff.
May respond to all alarm activation’s and investigate cause in conjunction with Engineering Dept. employee(s).
Participates in investigations, maintains records, and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.
Assures accurate reporting of activities of the Security Officer and incidents that occur on campus for the Director, Engineering Services and/or Executive Staff.
Effectively uses oral and written communication skills to exchange information. Considers the impact of their actions and decisions on others – employees, patients, visitors.
Effectively and professionally deals with the public as a representative of NARMC in such a manner as to allow him/her to accomplish his/her duties without creating unnecessary controversy.
Maintains a positive professional working relationship with all local and state law enforcement agencies.
Identifies and suggests methods for improving work procedures, security practices and policies.
Follows and complies with hospital and department policies in relation to work assignments and appearance.
Responsible for contacting Assistant Chief Woodruff (or Engineering Director) of absences and/or need to reassign officers to ensure coverage for shift.
Provides basic functions to prevent fire, theft, and vandalism, secures, unlocks, and protects property, responds to personal safety/security needs of those on property.
Attends in-service training classes, as required.
Must satisfy established physical, medical, and psychological standards.
Must possess a valid Arkansas driver’s license.
Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Qualifications:
Education:
Work requires communication and analytical skills normally acquired through a high school education + additional specialized training through an approved law enforcement academy or training program.
Experience:
One year experience in a security related field preferred.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:
Off duty Harrison Police Department officers and/or selected auxiliary officers who meet the requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Remain calm and professional in all situations,
Ability to exercise independent judgment in emergency situations.
Relate and work well with co-workers.
Attention to record keeping and documentation of work performed. Understand, perform and enforce applicable hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Possess a working knowledge of applicable state laws, especially those dealing with use of force and detention powers.
Ability to perform day to day duties independent of coaching.
Must understand and use good customer service skills in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of NARMC.
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
