JOB TITLE SUMMARY
Job Title: Officer, Public Safety and Security

Job Summary
The public safety and security officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors by patrolling the campus, reporting crime and enforcing university policies.
Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators
The intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibility that will be required of positions given this title. Job Responsibilities and Execution
Secures premises by patrolling property, monitoring surveillance equipment and inspecting buildings and access points
Upholds university’s standards and reputation by complying with legal requirements of the Clery Act
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the university’s Emergency Action Plan
Enforces campus parking regulations
Completes incident/accident reports for missing or stolen property and criminal activity; assures accurate reports, including detailed, complete observations and information
Conducts surveillance
Interviews witnesses and obtains signatures
Service Excellence
Supports the university mission and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
Models, supports and holds others accountable to the university’s values – integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity and teamwork
Accompanies visitors, students and employees on campus upon request
Provides public assistance, including lockout services, first aid, vehicle jump‐starts and traffic direction
Communication, Teamwork and Collaboration
Prevents loss and damage via consistent reporting of concerns
Educates violators on proper policies and procedures
Job may require other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.
High school diploma or equivalent
Valid driver’s license
Acceptable criminal background check
Security license must be obtained within 60 days of employment
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certifications must be obtained in a timely manner
State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Incident Command System (ICS) 100 Higher Education (HE) and 700 courses must be passed with certifications obtained
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Security, military or law enforcement experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities – May be representative, but not all inclusive, of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform this job competently.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
Ability to use good judgement, think critically and problem solve
Ability to mediate, intervene and remain calm during emergencies, hostile situations and physical altercations
Ability to work with large groups of students
Effective communication skills
Strong personal integrity
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
