Position Objective:

The Overnight Security Officer plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the premises, staff, and visitors of California Center for the Arts, Escondido Foundation (CCAEF) during nighttime operations. With a focus on deterring unauthorized access, preventing vandalism and property damage, and fostering a secure environment, this position aims to maintain a safe campus atmosphere throughout overnight hours. Collaborating closely with CCAEF staff, the Overnight Security Officer is dedicated to providing effective security measures, exemplary customer service, and timely responses to both routine and emergency situations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Security:

Conduct foot patrols of the campus and facilities to check for irregularities and prevent unauthorized entry, theft, or damage to property.
Secure buildings, rooms, and workspaces.
Verbally instruct unauthorized guests to leave the premises and contact Escondido Police Department if non-compliance to verbal instructions persists.
Maintain vigilance and provide a visible presence to deter unauthorized presence and criminal activity during overnight hours.
Ensure the campus is secure and free from unauthorized persons prior to any morning events.
Monitor the public parking lot for any suspicious activity or unauthorized vehicles.
Observe and report activities and incidents.
Call emergency service personnel or other CCAEF staff as required.
Secure and lock all doors and windows.
Enforce rules and regulations of California Center for the Arts, Escondido Foundation.

Customer Service:

Respond appropriately to routine and emergency calls of service.
Communicate with facility users, staff, the public, vendors, volunteers, sales department, event staff, and other security officers.
Provide excellent customer service at all times.
Assist staff before, during, and after performance events.
Provide assistance and resources to individuals experiencing homelessness regarding where they can seek assistance during overnight hours.

Safety:

Use safety precautions in all security services and notify staff, the public, vendors, volunteers, sales department, event staff, and other security officers.
Preserve order and conduct all work in accordance with CCAEF’s policies and procedures, including safety, time & attendance, and uniform policies.
Assist with the periodic inspection of fire control equipment.
Assist the Safety Team with office safety walkthroughs.
Monitor guests and staff arriving on campus overnight to ensure their safety.
Take appropriate action in case of emergencies, such as medical incidents or fire alarms.

Administration:

Write clear, concise, detailed, and legible reports.
Report health, safety, facility, and security concerns.
Coordinate with other staff members to ensure a smooth transition between shifts and provide updates on any incidents or concerns.
Attend mandatory trainings and meetings as required.

Other duties as may be deemed necessary by the direct supervisor.

This position requires a valid and current BSIS California Guard Card or ability to obtain Guard Card
Intermediate knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Word

Ability to maintain professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances

Education and Experience:

This position requires a minimum of 1-year experience in security and customer service. High School Diploma or equivalent education required. A valid and current BSIS California Guard Card is required.

Physical demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up 60 pounds or more, and occasionally lift and/or move 70 pounds. Must be able to reach, bend and stoop.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for 6 hours or more. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.

Working Environment:

The work environment for this position is dynamic, situated within a security and hospitality setting. Employees will frequently interact with individuals experiencing homelessness, as well as those undergoing mental health crises or under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Noise levels fluctuate, ranging from moderate to high during programming and events. Work may occur indoors or outdoors, subjecting employees to varying weather conditions including hot, cold, and mild temperatures. Additionally, the noise level within the work environment can range from low to moderate, occasionally reaching high levels during peak times.
