Workplace Type: This position is onsite with Situational Telework options. Please be aware that the workplace type allowed is approved by the client and is subject to change dependent on client needs and expectations.
Compensation:
Kaiva Tech is looking for a talented Personnel Security Specialist to join the team full-time. This position pays $75,000 – $110,000, salary dependent on qualifications.
Please note that the salary range for this role considers a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions to include and not limited to experience, skill sets, training, certifications, and other organizational needs.
Summary Overview:
The Physical Security Specialist is responsible for the protection of an organization’s physical assets, including facilities, personnel, and equipment. This role involves developing and implementing physical security policies, conducting risk assessments, coordinating security measures, and ensuring compliance with security regulations. The specialist will work closely with other departments to develop integrated security strategies and respond to security incidents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate is capable, motivated and willing to learn and grow as the position evolves. In this exciting opportunity as a Physical Security Specialist your responsibilities will include:
Physical Security Program Development:
Develop and implement physical security policies, procedures, and standards to ensure the protection of facilities, personnel, and assets.
Conduct regular reviews and updates of physical security protocols to align with changing threats, technologies, and organizational requirements.
Oversee and manage access control systems, intrusion detection systems, video surveillance systems, and other physical security technologies.
Risk Assessment & Mitigation:
Conduct physical security risk assessments and vulnerability analyses for facilities and critical infrastructure.
Identify potential threats and vulnerabilities (e.g., unauthorized access, theft, sabotage) and recommend mitigation strategies.
Collaborate with key stakeholders to implement security improvements and ensure the organization’s preparedness against potential threats.
Security Systems Management:
Manage the installation, operation, and maintenance of physical security systems such as Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), alarms, biometric access control, and motion detection systems.
Coordinate with external vendors and contractors to ensure proper implementation and maintenance of security technologies.
Evaluate new security technologies and make recommendations for enhancements based on organizational needs.
Access Control & Visitor Management:
Develop and enforce access control policies and procedures for employees, contractors, and visitors.
Oversee the issuance and management of security badges and credentials to ensure that only authorized individuals can access secure areas.
Monitor entry and exit points, including parking lots, to ensure compliance with security policies.
Security Audits & Inspections:
Conduct regular security audits and inspections of facilities to ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory security requirements (e.g., Department of Defense, Federal Protective Services standards).
Prepare reports based on audit findings and provide recommendations for corrective actions and security improvements.
Support external security inspections and work with government agencies to resolve any identified security issues.
Emergency Response & Incident Management:
Assist in the development and implementation of emergency response plans and procedures related to physical security.
Respond to security incidents, including unauthorized access, breaches, or other physical security threats, and coordinate appropriate actions such as lockdowns or evacuations.
Prepare after-action reports following security incidents and recommend strategies to prevent future occurrences.
Security Awareness Training:
Provide security awareness training to employees, contractors, and other stakeholders on physical security policies, procedures, and emergency response protocols.
Conduct specialized training for security personnel on best practices for physical protection, monitoring, and emergency response.
Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with facility management, human resources, IT, and law enforcement to coordinate and enhance physical security measures.
Serve as the primary point of contact for security vendors, law enforcement, and government officials concerning physical security matters.
Participate in cross-functional meetings and committees to provide physical security expertise and guidance.
Policy & Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local physical security regulations, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and National Industrial Security Program (NISP) requirements.
Stay current with security trends, laws, and regulatory changes, ensuring that the organization’s physical security program evolves accordingly.

Required Experience and Skills:
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in physical security, security systems management, or related fields.
Knowledge & Skills:
Strong understanding of physical security principles, access control systems, and surveillance technologies.
Experience in conducting risk assessments, vulnerability analyses, and implementing security strategies.
Familiarity with security regulations and standards, such as DoD 5200.08-R (Physical Security Program) and Interagency Security Committee (ISC) standards.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make effective decisions in high-pressure situations.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and train employees.
Desired Experience and Skills:
Certifications such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), or similar.
Experience working in government or defense-related physical security programs.
Knowledge of emerging security technologies and trends, including smart security systems and integrated security solutions.
Education:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in security management, criminal justice, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.

Ability to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
Ability to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach daily.
Ability to lift to 30 pounds and climb ladders occasionally.
