This position is with the Campus Police & Security Services department, located at the Metropolitan Campus. The role reports to the Sergeant and is a part-time support staff position, unionized, with a work schedule from Monday to Friday, including weekends and holidays. There is one opening available.
Job Description
Summary: Performs duties as an armed peace officer, conducting investigations, patrols, and providing security within the campus community.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Gathering and reporting safety-related information.
Providing protection for persons and property.
Responding to emergencies and assisting in life-threatening situations.
Investigating incidents, making arrests, issuing citations, and preparing reports.
Transporting prisoners, testifying in court, controlling crowds, and enforcing laws and policies.
Providing assistance to local police, completing administrative forms, and managing access to secure areas.
Transporting visitors and staff as needed, maintaining licenses and certifications, and conducting citizen training.
Adhering to safety standards and demonstrating regular attendance.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED.
Excellent interpersonal, public speaking, note-taking, and report-writing skills.
Good physical ability and policing skills, including proficiency with firearms and certifications in First Aid and CPR.
Valid Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy certification, Ohio driver’s license, and the ability to meet insurability requirements.
Ability to complete a thorough background check and various assessments.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree in Law Enforcement or related field.
Law enforcement experience, especially in a college setting.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
Must be able to perform physical activities, work in various environmental conditions, and handle chemicals or bio-hazards as necessary.
Additional Notes
This is a part-time AFSCME Bargaining Unit position, Grade 8, with a minimum hourly rate of $26.23. Employment is contingent upon background checks and drug screening. Applicants may need to attach a cover letter and resume during application.
