Position Summary

Perform all regular full-time Patrol Officer duties, including patrol, traffic control, responding to calls, investigating accidents and offenses, issuing citations, serving subpoenas, making arrests, transporting prisoners, testifying, applying for warrants, taking juveniles or mentally ill persons into custody, writing reports, conducting crime prevention surveys, responding to inquiries, fingerprinting, evidence collection, rescue tasks, controlling violent subjects, apprehending suspects, and participating in training programs.

Patrol Port Houston properties to maintain security, inspect fencing and gates for tampering or breaches.

Check buildings and facilities for occupancy and security when empty.

Inspect offices, warehouses, waterfront, and rail areas for damages or security issues.

Conduct area checks of facilities, wharfs, staging areas, parking lots, and restricted zones.

Enforce TWIC verification, monitor radio and phone communications professionally.

Escort visitors and vehicles, transport personnel as needed.

Investigate incidents and prepare reports promptly.

Assist with vessel berthing, traffic control, and outside agency support as directed.

Manage vehicular traffic, issue violations, and prevent congestion.

Monitor suspicious activities, hazards, and illegal activities.

Follow all Port Houston Police Manual and employee policies, comply with security regulations.

Enforce state laws, act according to core values, and perform other duties as required.

Education

/Experience

High School diploma or GED.

At least 2 years law enforcement experience.

Designated Officer levels based on experience (Officer 1 to Officer
4).

TCOLE Peace Officer license required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Knowledge of Texas Penal, Transportation Codes, and Criminal Procedures.

Investigation techniques, SOPs, policies, and procedures.

Use of force, weapons, and law enforcement equipment.

Strong communication skills, ability to work under stress, multitask, and make sound decisions.

Valid Texas driver’s license, ability to drive patrol vehicles, pass FIT test, and maintain physical agility.

TWIC credential within 30 days of employment, and availability for emergency work including holidays and nights.
