About the role

Anthropic is seeking an experienced counsel to support our AI products security and Safeguards initiatives. As a member of the Product Counsel function, you will work cross-functionally to navigate security and safety-related legal challenges, mitigate risks, and help shape robust security and trust & safety practices for AI systems.

Partner with Security, Safeguards, Engineering, and Product to provide legal guidance on security features, safety controls, incident response, and risk management throughout the product development lifecycle

Develop expertise in laws and regulations relevant to AI security and safety, including cybersecurity frameworks, content moderation requirements, data breach notification requirements, and security/safety-specific AI legislation. Stay current on related legal developments affecting AI systems

Advise on Security and Safeguards policies, incident response plans, vulnerability disclosure programs, and related contractual provisions. Ensure compliance while maintaining operational efficiency

Lead Security and Safeguards compliance initiatives and audits. Collaborate with external counsel, regulators, and industry groups to advance AI security and safety practices and advocate for responsibleinnovation

You may be a good fit if *

Have a JD from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar (California preferred)

Have 7+ years of legal experience advising on security and trust & safety issues for technology companies or AI/ML products

Possess strong technical understanding of security and trust & safety concepts, with experience managing incidents, program governance, and AI/ML-specific challenges including model security and harmprevention

Are humble, thoughtful, exercise sound judgment and operate at the highest level of integrity

Are strategic, flexible, resourceful, andsolution-oriented

Have strong organizational andproject managementskills, and are able to prioritize and execute on tasks

Have exceptional analytical, writing, andcommunication skills. You understand how to succinctly and effectively communicate legal issues to non-lawyers

In-house or similar experience at a global law firm

Experience in a tech company or otherfast-paced environment

Role-specific **For this role, we expect all staff to be able to work from our San Francisco office at least 3 days a week, though we encourage you to apply even if you might need someflexibilityfor an interim period of time.
