Job Title:Public Safety 9-1-1 Dispatcher

Salary:$3,662 monthly / $43,942 annually

General Statement

The Public Safety Dispatcher receives and prioritizes emergency and non-emergency telephone calls. Dispatcher process the information with the aid of a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system and dispatches the appropriate public safety agencies via a two-way radio system.

Examples of Duties and Essential Job Function

Maintains a positive customer service attitude at all times with the public, user agencies, co-workers, and supervisors

Interacts with callers requesting emergency / non-emergency response or services from the community or other public agencies by use of a complex Enhanced 9-1-1 telephone systems

Uses established protocols and computer systems to determine appropriate action(s) to be taken

Monitors and maintains the location and status of law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical units in the field by use of a complex two-way radio systems

Participates with the Administration in the development, implementation, and review of Dispatch procedures, protocols, and training programs

Enters and retrieves data on the Federal, State, and Local data base systems to assist law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical units

Deals with sensitive information in a discreet and professional manner by maintaining confidentiality

Performs other related duties as assigned

Working Conditions / Physical Activities

Approximately 90% of duties are performed in a secured office with artificial lighting. There is limited opportunity for physical movement and the dispatcher must remain alert and responsible while observing computer display screens under these lighting conditions for uninterrupted periods of time. The dispatcher must have adequate hearing, visual acuity, manual dexterity, and mental disposition to successfully perform all essential duties.

Work week includes shift work in a 24 hour-a-day, seven day-a-week operation that includes weekends and holidays. Telephone / radio headsets must be worn for long periods. In emergency situation, the dispatcher may be required to return to the 9-1-1 Center for additional hours / shifts.

Regular, punctual and consistent attendance is a condition of continued employment.

Qualifications

Must be a United States citizen

Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent

Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older

Must not have been convicted of any Felony charges

Must successfully pass a multi-tasking dexterity computer generated test, which includes spelling and typing skills

Successfully pass an Oral Interview, Background Investigation, Psychological Medical, Hearing Examination, and Drug Screen Testing

Must be willing to work varying shift schedules, overtime hours, holidays and on-call as needed
