Position Summary
The Public Safety Operations Manager is a key leadership role within the Morehouse College Police Department (MCPD), positioned as the highest-ranking civilian in the department. This crucial role is responsible for the seamless integration of operational and administrative functions, ensuring a secure and supportive campus environment. The Operations Manager will coordinate and oversee all civilian operations, providing strategic oversight and implementing effective safety and security measures in line with the college’s mission.

Your expertise in management, strategic planning, and technology-driven security solutions will be essential in fostering a safe learning environment. This role demands a proactive leader who is adept at balancing operational efficiency with innovative safety practices, making significant contributions to the campus community.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Criminal Justice, Public Safety, or a related field.
Professional experience in a leadership role within leading civilian operations
Must possess or be able to obtain a PMP (Project Management Professional) certification, Six Sigma certification, a certification in Risk Management, or a relevant HR certification such as SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) or PHR (Professional in Human Resources).
Demonstrated ability to manage both personnel and complex operations effectively.
Proficiency in data analysis, project management software, and technology-based security systems.
Strong leadership, strategic planning, and communication skills.

Working in Data Analytics and experience in project management

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strategic Operations Leadership:
Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive safety and security strategies that enhance the educational environment.
Provide high-level oversight of all public safety operations, ensuring alignment with the college’s values and objectives.

Management of Civilian Staff:
Supervise and mentor civilian staff, including administrative personnel like the office manager, to ensure operational excellence and professional growth. Establish and maintain high standards of performance and accountability across all civilian roles.
Operational and Administrative Oversight:
Oversee daily operations of the department, integrating administrative duties with strategic security measures. Manage resource allocation, budgeting, and logistical planning to optimize departmental efficiency and effectiveness.
Data-Driven Security Analysis:
Utilize advanced data analytics tools to monitor, evaluate, and enhance security protocols and preventive measures. Provide actionable insights and reports to MCPD leadership, informing policy and operational decisions.
Crisis Management and Emergency Response:
Coordinate the department’s response to emergencies, ensuring rapid and effective action in crisis situations. Develop and maintain crisis management protocols, training staff to execute them efficiently under pressure.
6. Community and Interdepartmental Collaboration:

Foster strong relationships with other campus departments, local law enforcement, and emergency services to support a collaborative approach to campus safety. Act as a liaison to promote public safety initiatives and integrate community feedback into operational strategies.

Ensure all operations adhere to relevant laws, regulations, and college policies, particularly those impacting campus safety. Lead efforts to update and refine safety protocols and procedures, staying informed of legal and regulatory changes.

Physical Demands
This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
Frequent walking to various locations on campus may be necessary, including navigating stairs and walking on uneven terrain.
Occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 20 pounds, such as files, documents, and equipment.
Must be able to respond swiftly in emergency situations, which may involve quick movements, climbing, or directing physical activities.
The ability to operate office equipment, conduct inspections, and maintain a presence at campus events is also necessary.

Data Analysis and Reporting:
Utilize data analytics tools to monitor safety trends, prepare reports, and provide actionable insights that guide decision-making and policy development.
Emergency Preparedness and Crisis Management:
Coordinate the department’s response to emergencies, develop and maintain crisis management protocols, and train staff to handle emergency situations efficiently.
Collaboration and Community Engagement:
Build and maintain relationships with local law enforcement, emergency services, and campus departments to promote a collaborative approach to public safety and ensure a supportive campus atmosphere.
