Mission
The Campus Security Guard is responsible for providing a safe and secure school environment, fosters an optimal learning environment, and acts as a deterrent to unsafe or poor behavior, as well as performing general maintenance and repairs for assigned equipment. This is done by patrolling the campus, monitoring student behavior, enforcing school policies, intervening in physical encounters, monitoring security cameras, monitoring visitors, reporting unsafe or unhealthy conditions, and assisting administrators and/or public officials with emergency or investigative situations. The position may require varying work hours and days including evenings and weekends.
Duties and Responsibility:
Walking and surveying hallways, common areas, grounds and parking lots to maintain security.
Monitor students during lunch hours in various school locations including, including the student breakroom and parking lot area
Intervene in verbal and physical encounters among students, de-escalating situations when necessary
Enforce school policies related to weapons, tobacco, illegal substances, traffic rules, and the dress code.
Diffuse hostile situations
Discuss and mediate student infractions, provide written accounts of incidents to administrators, and assist with assignment of disciplinary measures as necessary
Escort unauthorized visitors off the premises as needed
Report unsafe conditions and potential health and safety hazards to administrators
Assist administrators, staff, and students during crisis situations (e.g., fire drills, weapons control, bomb threats, lockdowns).
Facilitate and schedule emergency evacuation drills, ensuring preparedness for emergencies.
Assist the OSHA coordinator in ensuring compliance with safety regulations and requirements.
Provide security during school-sponsored events and extracurricular activities, including evenings, weekends, and occasional nights
Assist the Management and HR personnel in investigations of illegal activities within the school as requested
Enforce school policies as outlined in the student handbook
Lifting, moving boxes, items as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
High School Diploma
Criminal background check required for hire
California Security Guard License required
Common sense, problem solving, mediation skills, and mature attitude
Ability to respond to hostile situations and intervene in physical altercations
Ability to work with large groups of students, including students with special needs
Ability to work a flexible work schedule to include evenings, nights and weekends
Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds
Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
Basic operating knowledge of two-way radios required
