JOB SUMMARY
The Safety Security Officer at the Dayton Art Institute plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of visitors, staff, and artworks within the museum premises. This position involves monitoring and patrolling the facility, enforcing security protocols, responding to emergencies, and providing exceptional customer service to uphold the institute’s commitment to a safe and welcoming environment. This position is full-time, 3rd shift, scheduled for 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM, with a hourly rate of $17.81.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Conducts regular overnight patrols of the museum galleries, grounds, and parking areas.
Monitors security cameras and alarm systems to detect and prevents unauthorized access and potential security breaches ensuring real-time surveillance.
Provides a visible presence to deter criminal activity to ensure the safety of visitors and staff.
Respond promptly to emergencies, alarms, and incidents such as medical emergencies, fires, or security threats.
Take appropriate actions to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of individuals and artworks.
Enforce museum security policies and procedures to maintain order and protect assets.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Safety Security Officer does not have any direct supervisory responsibilities.
Previous night shift security experience preferred including experience in emergency preparedness, crisis management, and incident response is preferred.
Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Attention to detail and high level of attentiveness and the ability to stay alert during overnight hours.
CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.
Ability to interact and build relationships with people of diverse backgrounds, personalities, and characteristics, including but not limited to age, gender identity, race, nationality, ethnicity, religious beliefs, disability status, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, and physical appearance.
These qualifications and duties emphasize the unique challenges and responsibilities of working the 3rd shift, ensuring that the museum remains secure and protected throughout the night.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role is primarily based in a museum setting, with daily movement throughout the facility and its grounds. It requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, frequent use of hands and fingers for handling objects and tools, and effective communication in person, over the phone, and via email. Specific vision abilities needed include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The role may occasionally involve lifting up to 40 pounds and responding to emergencies, which could require physical exertion.
