FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE: The Campus Security Associate ensures a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors by patrolling/monitoring all activity at assigned locations. The employee in this position conducts initial investigations of incidents committed, implements behavior management programs and works as a team member to increase social, behavioral, and academic skills needed for the success of students. The employee is not required or expected to carry a firearm.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Patrols school sites to detect and deter inappropriate actions or activities from both internal and external sources.
Responds to school personnel calls for assistance, monitors the school’s anonymous tip line and conducts preliminary investigation of complaints.
Evaluates prevention measures, maintains crisis plans, and responds to school emergencies.
Conducts fire/lockdown drills, trains staff on emergency procedures, assists administrative staff in lockdown procedures.
Required to provide security and crowd control for school activities, sports/special events as assigned, and run traffic control points where assigned.
Explains rules and regulations of the school system.
Answers and checks on alarms (may be outside of normal workday), security systems and preserve video evidence.
Acts as an advocate for students by providing one on one/group therapeutic processing sessions, assessment of student’s needs individual behavior planning, personal goal setting, weekly follow-ups with students and other school-based supports as needed.
Observes, documents, and maintains data regarding student behavior, attendance, and academic progress. Evaluates student information and makes recommendations as needed.
Establishes rapport and working relationships with students, staff, parents, and other community agencies to promote the best possible outcomes for the students in the shortest possible time frame.
Serves as a liaison between the students, parents, WSFCS non-traditional programs/schools, regular schools, community agencies, and other educational programs.
Assists students, parents, staff, and community agencies in understanding WSFCS policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Implement behavior management programs, enabling students to acquire social and interpersonal behaviors that will enhance their academic success. Assists teachers and administrators to develop current behavior management strategies.
Assists with the day-to-day discipline, discuss student concerns with appropriate school staff and community agencies. Assists with coordinating activities for parents and responds to requests for assistance and information.
Provides close supervision to students who have committed WSFCS code of conduct violations or law violations and have been assigned to an alternative setting.
Provides immediate practical assistance to students in an effort to increase necessary social, behavioral, and academic skills needed to be successful in the home school setting.
Implements social skills/character education curriculum and provides individual and group instruction to students regarding appropriate social skills and behaviors. Proactively monitors behavior by observing and interacting with students.
Creates and maintains records of all school incidents. Maintains accurate log of student progress, relative behavior, and social skills development.
Assists in the identification of students who demonstrate a need for participation in programs provided by community-based human services agencies.
Responds to crisis and routine calls for assistance from staff and/or students. Diffuses and de-escalates potentially volatile situations.
Addresses the needs of EC students appropriately and in accordance with individual Education Plan

Performs related duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of operations, functions, procedures, and legal processes of law enforcement.
Working knowledge of the operation of two-way radio equipment.
Working knowledge of the geographical layout of the school sites as to locations of roads, important buildings, and other landmarks.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in emergencies and routine situations and to adopt quick, effective, and reasonable courses of actions.
Ability to speak clearly, distinctly, politely and able to diffuse difference through conflict resolution.
Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
Possesses knowledge of and demonstrates respect for all students, parents, employees, Executive Staff, BOE members and community leaders using tact, patience and courtesy.
Ability to prepare and maintain records, reports and maintain confidentiality.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum: High School Diploma/GED supplemented by law enforcement courses
Experience: Three years of related work experience
Desirable: Associates Degree in criminal justice/Education or previous law and/or code enforcement experience.
Desirable: Prior military and/or law enforcement experience preferred.
Minimum: Completion of an Associate’s Degree or two years of higher education equivalent to 48 credit hours or ability to pass a formal assessment (Workkeys and 96 hours of in-service training or completion of the NC DOL Apprenticeship Program or completion of the NC ATA Professional Development Plan
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license required
Desirable RBT certification

Pay Grade 59 – $2,838.63 Monthly Salary – Full Time Position – 10 Months
