Minimum Skills:
Applicants must have a high school education or G.E.D., be 21 years of age, have no criminal record and meet the minimum physical fitness and medical requirements.
A minimum of 18 months law enforcement experience.
Must have a working knowledge of school operations and understand the concept of working with school administration to deter general crimes, property crimes and crimes against persons.
Good oral and written communications skills.
Must be able to multi-task.
Must Have Valid Class C Driver’s License.
Preferred Training as a School Resource Officer but not required. Applicant will complete required course through GPSTC once hired.
Job Description:
Applicants must have good moral character as determined by investigation. The person selected shall serve a 12-month probationary period. The School Resource Officer will be assigned to work in schools within the jurisdiction of the Jesup Police Department. The School Resource Officers are responsible for school safety and to deter and investigate criminal activity within the school system. On school system holidays and during the summer, the officer will be assigned to patrol to control traffic, prevent crime or disturbance of peace, and arrest violators.
Renders first aid at accidents and investigates causes and results of accidents. Directs and reroutes traffic around fire or other disruptions. Inspects public establishments requiring licenses to ensure compliance with rules and regulations. Warns or arrests persons violating animal ordinances. Issues tickets to traffic violators. Writes and files daily activity report with superior officer.
