The Hephzibah Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Public Safety Officer. This role is a dual-certified position requiring both Georgia Peace Officer Certification and Firefighter Certification. Public Safety Officers serve the community by performing law enforcement, fire suppression, and emergency response duties to ensure the safety and well-being of Hephzibah’s residents.
Key Responsibilities:
· Enforce local, state, and federal laws while protecting life and property.
· Conduct investigations, make arrests, and respond to emergency calls for service.
· Perform fire suppression, search and rescue, and emergency medical response as needed.
· Operate emergency vehicles, including police units and fire apparatus.
· Engage in community policing initiatives to foster positive relationships with the public.
· Respond to emergency calls, including law enforcement, fire suppression, and medical assistance.
· Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
· Maintain accurate reports and documentation related to law enforcement and fire service duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Must be at least 21 years of age.
· High school diploma or GED (college coursework preferred).
· Current Georgia POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) Certification.
· Certified Firefighter through the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council.
· Valid Georgia driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
· Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, psychological evaluation, drug screening, and physical agility test.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Previous experience as a police officer and/or firefighter.
· EMT or First Responder certification.
· Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
