Job Summary
The Security Systems Assistant Foreman assists in overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic security systems across various environments. This role involves supporting the Foreman in managing a team of technicians, coordinating project schedules, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. The Assistant Foreman also provides technical support and training to team members and helps maintain an inventory of parts, tools, and equipment necessary for access control, surveillance, and alarm systems.
Essential Functions
Oversees the daily operations of the Security Systems team.
Reviews, approves and prioritizes work orders.
Assigns tasks and monitors team performance to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
Leads the installation, maintenance, and repair of security electronics, including surveillance systems, alarms, and access control systems.
Troubleshoots and diagnoses issues with security systems and implements timely solutions.
Develops and implements preventive maintenance schedules for all security electronics to ensure optimal functionality.
Conducts regular inspections and tests to identify potential issues before they become critical.
Trains team members on installation techniques, troubleshooting, and safety protocols.
Fosters an environment of continuous learning and improvement among staff.
Manages inventory levels of tools, equipment, and replacement parts to ensure sufficient supplies for maintenance tasks.
Coordinates with suppliers to procure necessary equipment and materials.
Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities, including service logs, repairs, and inspections.
Prepares reports on the status of security systems, proposed upgrades, and maintenance activities.
Works closely with other departments and stakeholders to address security needs and enhance system integration.
Coordinates with external vendors for specialized services or equipment.
Ensures all maintenance activities comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and Granite School District policies and procedures.
Promotes a culture of safety and accountability within the maintenance team.
Responds to security system failures or emergencies, coordinating with relevant personnel to restore services quickly.
Participates in after-hours on-call support as needed.
Analyzes system performance data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Recommends upgrades and changes to enhance security effectiveness and system reliability.

Required Knowledge and Skills
Comprehensive understanding of the practical theory of electronic technology.
Foundational knowledge of basic electrical theory.
Proficient knowledge of various electronics-related test equipment, including multimeters, signal tracing devices, power supplies, frequency counters, and oscilloscopes.
Familiarity with vehicle wiring and an understanding of vehicle safety codes and warranties.
Skilled in performing mechanical tasks and using all relevant hand tools.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to learn and understand a range of related computer hardware and software.
Proficient in diagnosing problems and utilizing problem-solving skills to address identified issues.
Basic math skills.
Oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while maintaining a positive and helpful attitude.
Skilled in reading and creating schematics using electronic industry symbols and codes.
Strong awareness of safety issues and equipment limitations.
Proficient in soldering for the removal of surface mount components.
Required Education and Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Two years of relevant formal training in electronics, electronics theory, and repair.
Requires a valid driver’s license.
Requires completion of training in working around, handling, and treatment of asbestos provided by Granite School District.
Required Prior Experience
Requires a minimum of four (4) years of successful experience in a related area.
Note: The district reserves the right to make specific requirements for this position, however, when prior work experience has been evaluated to be particularly pertinent, some exchanges between training and experience may be authorized.
Assigned Decision Making
Develops plans for preventive maintenance of all police and electronic systems, including security, two-way radios, and other police-related systems.
Establishes specifications for supply purchases and parts procurement.
Determines whether to repair or replace the equipment.
Prioritizes and schedules work effectively and efficiently.
Collaborates with school and district administrators to determine the best practices for using and installing electronic equipment.
Non-supervisory Interaction
Interacts and collaborates with maintenance employees, custodians, inspectors, contractors, district and school administration, vendors, and the public.
Supervisory Responsibility
Trains, assigns work to, and monitors leads, contract employees, hourly employees, and other technicians regularly.
Working Environment
Work occurs in environments of cold, heat, dust, dirt, noise, moisture, chemical exposure, high voltage, varied heights, and confined spaces.
Special equipment and suits are required when working around hazardous materials such as asbestos.
Emergencies may require irregular hours.
