Summary:
The Security Officer In Charge is responsible for the safety and security of all facility employees, patients, visitors, physicians, and health system property and equipment. The Officer shall maintain public order through visible patrols, response to emergencies, public liaison activities, and documentation of occurrences. This individual shall assist outside agencies in mitigating risk and investigating crimes and incidents. The Officer will perform safety checks/assessments/inspections and to correct or take steps to correct any safety or security hazards. The Officer shall enforce policies and procedures related to security at the location, and direct both foot and vehicular traffic in and around the location, when necessary. This individual will supervise and enforce all systems designed to monitor or identify personnel and vehicles entering the location. Additionally, the Officer shall log activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences. The Officer will complete fire drills for areas both internal and external to the facilities and completes extinguisher checks as assigned. The Officer shall serve as the lead during the shift for any intervention situations. This individual will coordinate daily activities of the security officers. The Officer is responsible for other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Associate’s degree preferred. Supervisory experience in the security field or law enforcement preferred. Strong verbal and written communications skills. Must be 21 years old per TCA-62-35-106.
Licenses and Certifications:
AHA BLS required (or obtained within 6 months of hire) For Tennessee locations: Must possess or obtain within 90 days state certification as a private security officer. Sworn police officers in the state of TN must provide a current copy of the post certification card in lieu of state certification as a private security officer. At any time the officer is no longer a sworn officer, he/she must go through the licensing process within 30 days. Must complete de-escalation training/certification after hire. Must complete 16 hours of Armed Security Training per year, including maintaining 80% shooting accuracy and range safety. Must pass Forensics Exam and the system’s Armed Security Course within 60 days of hire, as well as semi-annually. International Association of Hospital Safety and Security basic certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained throughout employment, with advancement to advanced certification and supervisory certification required. Valid state motor vehicle operator’s license required. Must be insurable by the hospital insurance carrier.
