Job Summary
The CEI Campus Safety Department prides itself on being the first line of emergent and non-emergent assistance on campus. A Campus Safety Officer’s main objective is to support the core values of the campus and help ensure a safe and friendly learning environment for all.
The schedule for this shift will be 4/10’s, with shifts starting in the morning and including Saturdays.

Typical Job Functions
Maintain accurate records of criminal incidents, accidents, security concerns, and daily incidents
Stay current on CEI policies and procedures
Conduct investigations involving security related matters
Perform general maintenance of all equipment for the campus security department
Assist local law enforcement agencies and fire departments with needs on campus
Patrol college properties to include the parking areas, grounds, and buildings
Ensure that areas are free from safety hazards, and buildings are locked or unlocked as required
Provide walking escorts around campus for staff, faculty, students and visitors
Assist contractors on campus gaining access to buildings, classrooms and other areas of campus
Assist individuals with locating classrooms, offices and other areas of campus
Maintain proper uniform appearance and is responsible for all uniform maintenance
Maintain a high level of professionalism and carry out the vision and mission of the college
Maintain daily crime logs
Complete continued training on department procedures and job-related duties
Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Posses a valid driver’s license to operate CEI vehicles
Must be able to legally hold or carry a firearm and/or concealed carry weapon
A combination of education and experience that yields the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform typical job functions
Ability to interpret policies and procedures
Demonstrated knowledge and skills in safety and security
Demonstrated organizational skills
Demonstrated customer service skills and the ability to effectively work with people
Demonstrated ability to conduct investigations that include skills in: problem solving, data collection, establishing relevant facts, and drawing valid conclusions
Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate, current and coherent security logs
Demonstrated excellent communication skills (written and oral)
Ability to be detail-oriented
Proficient with technology including computers, Microsoft Office Suite, Internet resources, security cameras, and other equipment routinely used by security personnel
Incumbent must reside in Idaho (Currently CEI doesn’t sponsor H-1B Visas)
Additional Desired Qualifications
Experience in security, law enforcement, or military
Experience working on a college campus
Bilingual (Spanish)

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
While performing duties, the employee may be regularly required to stand or sit for extended periods, walk long distances, use hands to handle, hold or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with arms, and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
The employee may be required to work in outside weather conditions and may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and high noise levels.
Employees are provided uniform polo shirts with identifying patches and embroidery, pants that the employee is responsible for having tailored to fit and a department baseball style hat. Employees are required to have the following items that are not provided:
Watch
Black boots (non-steel toe)
Undershirts as will be outlined in the uniform standards during the training and orientation process
On-site work is essential and regular predictable attendance is required. Employees may be required to work at occasional events and handle tasks outside of regular working hours.
Background Investigations:
Employment at College of Eastern Idaho will be contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background investigation and may require a credit and/or motor vehicle background investigation depending on the position. Please refer to Policy 225: Background Checks
