Under the direct supervision of the Security Supervisor – RPHC, maintains a security station and/or the facility and grounds of the River People Health Center, assists visitors, and performs other activities related to the safety and security of staff, patients, and visitors. Some activities can involve elements of danger or risk of injury. Protects the property against theft, fire, vandalism, or other illegal, unsafe, or unauthorized activities. This job class is treated as FLSA non-exempt.

Examples of Tasks

Responsible for ensuring a safe and secure facility.

Patrols assigned areas, checking for suspicious activity or safety/fire hazards, monitor security alarms and dispatch officers promptly to location(s) where needed, and report unsafe acts or conditions.

Investigates and/or reports hazards, unusual or suspicious circumstances to the appropriate leadership personnel.

Checks doors and windows of buildings to ensure they are tightly closed and locked; notes in written log any unlocked doors/windows; submits information to supervisor and/or manager.

Escorts people/property to desired destination when monies, documents or safety of property or persons are a concern.

Assist RPHC Staff, patients and visitors as needed with safety and security issues and concerns, as well as with directions and general guidance regarding facility.

Responds to alarms and dispatched calls and takes appropriate actions.

Unlocks buildings/doors after checking identification and compliance with policies.

Enforce organizational policies. (i.e. parking, smoking, badge compliance)

Assist in emergency situations.

Acts as first responder to disturbances/emergencies such as infant abduction alarms, fire alarms, panic alarms, or intruder alarms.

Must respond to urgent security calls immediately, which may require rapid stair climbing, running/sprinting, moving of heavy equipment and other associated tasks.

In the event of emergencies, must take charge of maintaining order, safety and to protect personnel and property. Some activities can involve verbally interacting with and de-escalating potentially volatile individuals.

Appropriately document any significant security and safety incidents and complete reports in accordance with established policy and procedures.

Observes normal rules of safety and makes recommendations for safety issue improvements.

Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:

Knowledge of the history, cultures, laws, rules, customs and traditions of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.

Knowledge of general security and patrol procedures and practices.

Knowledge of the information needed in reports of incidents occurring during shift hours.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with department staff, other SRPMIC staff, including law enforcement agency staff, and the public.
