The Security Manager is responsible for ensuring the protection of the Museum’s physical assets, collection and safety of its staff and visitors. The manager provides day-to-day oversight of the Museum’s physical security operations which includes; its security systems, personnel, security contractors and vendors.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO

Security and Safety

Plans, directs, and manages the staff and operations of the Security Department to provide 24 hour-a-day protection and security for the museum, the property, visitors, and works of art.
Maintains security documentation including, protocol, and incident reporting to ensure adherence with Museum standards and practices.
Assists with the coordinating security for all events, exhibits, and day-to-day operations that ensures proper coverage the safety of the public and the protection of works of art.
Consults and collaborates with the exhibitions and curatorial team, and other operations staff to define security needs for exhibitions, including reviewing the layout of new exhibitions in advance of installation.
Recommends security devices and/or procedures to meet the changing needs of exhibitions.
Recommends enhancement, purchase, and testing of new and existing security systems, technology, and device, implements approved changes
Executes regular security drills and training sessions to educate staff and volunteers about security, safety, and disaster preparedness.
Controls and tracks the usage of security equipment and devices. Reviews and updates equipment maintenance contracts.
Manages the security components of the Museums’ Transportation Security Administration’s Certified Screen Facility Program in conjunction with the Director of Exhibitions and the Director of Collections Management.
Represents the Museum at Museum security and law enforcement functions.

People Leadership

Provides comprehensive training to the security team on emergency response.
Educate staff about security, safety, and disaster preparedness.

Build Relationships

Consults regularly with other Sr. Leadership and on specific needs in relation to security operations. Attends meetings with other managers to determine operational needs.
Advises Museum administration on “best practices” and other issues, and recommends appropriate or fixes/corrective action.
Team player with proven ability to work collaboratively within complex organizations as well as build relationships.
Demonstrated experience providing frontline supervision and mentoring team members.
Confidence using technology in the daily workflow including access control, video management, and visitor management, and technical proficiency.

WHAT WE NEED IN YOU

Minimum Requirements

5+ years’ experience in a leadership level security role.
5+ years’ experience managing people
Extensive knowledge of commercial physical security systems, security processes and protocol, and regulations, law enforcement practices

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk.
Prolonged periods working on a computer/looking at a screen.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

This position is considered full-time, exempt. As a exempt position, it is not eligible for overtime pay. The minimum compensation for this role is $70,000 annually. The Walker offers a wide range of benefits for both part-time and full-time employees.

This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.
