Summary of Essential Functions:
Provide security services to all patients, staff, and visitors for all facilities and grounds. These services include, but are not limited to, patrol function, investigation of incident, incident reporting, pedestrian and vehicular traffic control, verbal and/or physical restraint, prevention of theft or other related security incidents, as well as other general duties associated with the hospital security function.
Responsible for fire prevention and safety, respond to all alarm and suspected fire incidents and play an important role in emergency management or disaster crisis situations. Also responsible for reporting suspected hazardous material spill or toxic gas leak situations.
Perform special assignments as deemed necessary by Security Management, as well as fulfilling Administrative requests for assistance.
Must be able to use assigned weapons properly, and with in policy to protect hospital staff and visitors.
Must be physically fit enough to patrol all floors, once an hour. There are nine floors in the Bethania Buliding and five floors at Bridwell Tower.
Some officers may be assigned additional responsibilities such as parking enforcement, field training, bike patrol or ER officer.
Educational Requirements:
Applicants must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
College credits or a degree in Criminal Justice or related field of study is highly preferred.
Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
License/Certifications:
Possess the ability to attain licensure in the State of Texas as a Level III Commissioned Security Officer. If not certified as a Level III Officer at time of hire, the officer will: Attain Level II, CPR, and CPI within six months of employment and Level III and weapon assigned by management within six months of Level II certification. If the hospital pays for the training, the officer must remain employed for Twenty Four Months after hire date or reimburse the department $500.00 for the training.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Must be 21 years or older and able to obtain a class “C” driver license (State of Texas).
At Least one (1) year experience as a security officer in a hospital setting is highly desired. Previous security officer experience, police experience, or military police experience is also preferred and may be substituted for direct healthcare experience.
Should possess a working knowledge of the Texas Penal Code and Code of Criminal Procedures (not mandatory but most advantageous).
May not have verifiable convictions for any class “B” misdemeanor or above.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
Must be able to access locations of a non-wheelchair accessible variety.
Must be able to withstand extended periods of exposure to environmental heat and cold conditions.
Must be able to tolerate prolonged periods of standing and walking.
Should possess vision and hearing within correctable limits, adjustable to normally accepted levels.
Must obtain CPR, CPI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention), and ASP Baton Certification, or any other authorized weapon within Six Months (New Employees) and Ninety Days (Existing Employees) Failure to meet this standard will result in termination or dismissal.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Makes prescribed patrols of the hospital complexes regularly being alert for fire, safety hazards and personal behavior patterns that could result in a disturbance or security violation and takes the appropriate action in accordance with departmental directives.
Keeps unauthorized persons out of restricted areas and evicts unruly, intoxicated, undesirable or vagrant persons from United Regional properties.
Documents reports of activities performed on duty to include all relevant entries in the computer log and all associated incident reports whether criminal or civil in nature. Prepares reports in a clear, concise manner using the correct spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Conducts investigations concerning reports of actual or attempted theft, burglary, vandalism, auto accidents (on United Regional property), safety incidents, and injuries to persons.
Directs and controls parking in all Hospital parking areas as needed. Removes vehicles from unauthorized parking spaces and directs them to appropriate areas. Clears the helicopter landing area of vehicles and keeps the area clear of all pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
Assists in locating and returning patients that have left their floor without returning, also may assist visitors and nursing staff with various tasks when needed.
Performs all other tasks/responsibilities as necessary.
