Job Title: Security Supervisor I – Swing Shift
$20.79/hr.- probationary rate, six month probationary period $21.79/hr – regular rate
Special Information: Missoula Correctional Services, Inc. is a non-profit corporation formed to provide alternative correctional programs in the Missoula community. The Missoula Pre-Release Center is one of these programs. The position requires a current State of Montana driver’s license. Mental demands are paramount due to the intensity of the work and the emotional demands of residents. Physical demands include the ability to restrain inmates in crisis situations, ability to observe and hear inmates, and adequate strength to lift 50 pounds. Therefore, the Security Supervisor needs to be in good physical condition and mobile. The Center is a 24-hour facility. The work schedule will be discussed during the interview process. Due to the nature and function of the Pre-Release Center and as a supervisor, you must be flexible in occasionally working various hours and schedules to cover vacations and activities.

Agency Description: The Missoula Pre-Release Center serves 94 adult male and 23 female inmates who have been committed to the Montana State Prison or the Department of Corrections and subsequently transferred to the Center. The Center provides housing, food services, counseling, supervision, life skills training and referral services for all residents. The primary emphasis of the program is to provide residents with assistance needed for successful reintegration into the community.
Typical Duties: (Not all inclusive) Directly supervises Security Officers – trains, delegates, assigns tasks, monitors, disciplines, evaluates, composes work and leave schedules, investigates and responds to offender grievances. Performs security functions throughout the facility – performs security audits, monitors daily security operations, issues incident reports to residents for any rule infraction; conducts weekly room searches, personal searches, breathalyzer tests and obtains urine samples from residents and other MCS clients; conducts random and assigned checks of clients’ locations in the community; informs the Director of Security of any major violations or unusual client behavior; documents unusual client behavior or information needed by other staff members; keeps Center areas locked which are unauthorized to clientele; provides crisis intervention when necessary to maintain orderly operation of the Center; answers incoming calls and documents information received; conducts hourly head counts; monitors client movement through the use of daily schedules and corresponding forms; and keeps records of a resident’s personal and Center property inventory. Conducts surveillance of the facility and grounds.
Keeps accurate files, preserves evidence in a legal manner, submits monthly reports/records to the Director Of Security testifies in Court, and keeps work area sanitary.
Ensures safety standards are being met by notifying the Maintenance Supervisor of any electrical, plumbing, vehicle, or building repairs needed; follows standards outlined in program policy manuals; conducts fire drills; checks resident household duties; knows and administers First Aid; administers client medication as prescribed; reports hazards and accident in the work placed; maintains awareness of emergency procedures. Assists in the performance of clerical duties-files resident information; completes word processing as assigned.
Serves on the interview committee for the hiring of Security staff and may serve on the hiring committee of other Corporation positions as requested by the Executive Director. Assists in the preparation for inspections, reviews and tours.
The Security Supervisor will demonstrate the ability to work within the structure of the Missoula Pre-Release Center – maintains good personal hygiene and good physical conditioning; is consistent in following rules, regulations, and policies; is punctual in attendance and working shifts as scheduled; attends staff meetings and training as required; completes duties in the time lines specified; is assertive with coworkers, supervisors, and community contacts; makes decision based on objective information considering the need to both the client and the community; follows directions given by supervisor; effectively balances time to train, meet with, and observe all security personnel; and performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Knowledge of security practices and systems in a correctional setting; security methods and techniques; interpersonal communication skills; computer operation and word processing. Must possess knowledge of personnel supervision and organizations skills for prioritizing workload, delegating tasks to other, and handling personal stress. Must possess knowledge of chain of evidence procedures.
Skills: Must possess skill in the use of security equipment and self-defense techniques and an introductory level of computer and word processing knowledge and skill.
Abilities: Must have the ability to: 1. physically respond in an emergency situation, including the ability to restrain an individual if necessary. 2. effectively communicate verbally and in written form. 3. follow written and oral instructions explicitly and perform accurate and thorough work. 4. operate a motor vehicle. 5. consistently apply rules and regulations and follow agency policies and procedures. 6. make appropriate decisions within limits of the positions authority. 7. act with initiative, exercise good judgement, and model good leadership. 8. maintain effective working relationships with employees, residents, the public and other agencies. 9. function effectively under stressful conditions. 10. become certified in the operation of drug testing equipment.
Education and Experience: High school graduate, one year of post-high school education, and three years of progressively responsible correctional officer or related law enforcement experience. Personnel supervision experience is preferred. An applicant that does not meet the experience requirements may be considered for a training position with a lesser salary.

Compensation: This position’s salary is $43,180+ the first year. Benefits include ten (10) working days of annual leave, sick leave, and ten (10) days of holiday leave per year, medical insurance and a retirement plan
Immigration Reform and Control Act: In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act, if an employee is unable to provide the required document or documents within three days, he or she must at least produce (within three days) a receipt showing that he or she has applied for the document. The employee must produce the document itself within 21 days of the hire. Examples of such documentation include a birth certificate or Social Security card along with a driver’s license or other picture I.D., a U.S. passport or a green card.
