Job Objective :

The Security Lead Officer provides constant field assistance and communication to the Security Supervisor and Director of Safety and Security on the implementation of day-to-day planning, developing, and operation of work activities of the department and its staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Enforces the overall safety and security of the hospital campus by determining appropriate security and safety rules and procedures are being adhered to.
Provides field assistance and constant communication to the Security Supervisor and/or Director of Safety and Security by monitoring posts to ensure that duties are properly executed and that officers are rotating properly between posts.
Assists the Supervisor and/or Director of Safety and Security in organization of staff in cases of emergency, assigning Security Officers to special tasks as directed.
Discusses reports of any and all investigations or security issues with any leads or findings with the Security Supervisor and Director of Safety and Security.
Assists the Supervisor in conducting and monitoring all field investigations and inquiries.
Determines prompt and accurate reporting by officers of any incident or security issues by requesting a written report or making sure that incidents are properly documented in request logs.
Contacts the Security Supervisor to report all unusual events and emergency situations.
Provides a daily briefing at the end of shift.
Responds to all off-site alarms and presents a formal report to Security Supervisor/Director.
Conducts and maintains a daily journal of all vehicle inspection reports.
Commits to continual learning.
Participates in training and monitoring of newly assigned personnel in the field under the direction of the Security Supervisor and/or Director of Safety and Security.
Assists in hospital wide training programs.
Contributes to departmental staff meetings .
Determines that security officers are in proper uniform and have suitable equipment to ensure the Safety of employees, patients, visitors and medical staff while on duty.
Maintains consistent communication with Security Supervisor and the Security Control Center to ensure that electronic surveillance equipment is correctly monitored. Monitors and keeps a constant communication with Security Supervisors on all code calls and/or restrained individuals, reporting any improper execution of policy and/or procedures.
Assumes Supervisor’s duties in the absence of the

Good knowledge of principles and practices of safety & security management, especially in a hospital setting
Good knowledge of principles and practices of supervision

Education and Experience:

Education

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention 8-hour course from the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) within 90 days of hire/promotion and recertification annually

Experience

A minimum of 2 years hospital security or related experience

Required Licensure and/or Certifications:

Possession of a valid California driver’s license
Current California Guard Card
Valid First Aid and/or CPR card maintained at all times
Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) designation from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 30 days of hire/promotion
Certified Advanced Healthcare Security Officer (CAHSO) designation from IAHSS within 60 days of hire/promotion
Certified Healthcare Safety Security Supervisor (CHSSS designation from IAHSS within 90 days of hire/promotion
Health Stream coursework, within 60 days of hire/promotion, on:
Workplace Violence
National Incident Management System (NIMS)
Emergency Management

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Work performed in a combination of the interior of a hospital building and outdoors under potentially stressful and emotional conditions.
Stand or walk or sit or a combination thereof for 8 hours.
Able to lift 50 lbs.
Able to move vigorously as needed.
Able to grip with both hands.
Able to bend and reach without limitations.
