Located in Baltimore’s cultural center near the historic Mount Vernon neighborhood, UMMC Midtown Campus is a 180-bed, community teaching hospital with a focus on helping people manage chronic diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, pulmonary conditions, and infectious diseases.
Job DescriptionGeneral SummaryUnder direct supervision, using a customer service orientation, provides for the safety and security of patients, visitors, and staff in a specified area of the UMMC Midtown campus. Carries defense technology OC pepper foam. This position does not have the authority to make arrests.
QualificationsEducation and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
One year experience in security, military, or law enforcement or certification in security/safety training is required. Education may be substituted for some experience. Experience in a hospital or healthcare institution is preferred.
Completion of a CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) course on Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is required within one year of hire or placement into the position.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of safety hazards, fire prevention, and suspect apprehension techniques.
Problem solving ability is required to ask probing questions of staff and other personnel to assist in the gathering of information for investigations of reported safety/security incidents.
Highly effective written and verbal communication skills are required to document safety and security incidents/violations, and to provide directions to patients, visitors, and all levels of hospital staff.
Effective interpersonal skills are required to seek information related to incidents under investigation.
