Job Summary

Job Summary: Job incumbent provides security services for all TCC properties and special events as necessary to ensure the mission and vision of the Security program are met. Services provided may include all functions and duties of the Security Officer including but not limited to patrols, monitoring of property, and assisting staff and visitors with access as appropriate. Incumbent also performs administrative functions and customer service duties related to the Security Department.

Adhere to the TCC Ch’eghwtsen’ model of service and guiding principle which requires providing timely and effective service along with the ability to interact with others in a way that inspires trust and demonstrates respect, compassion and empathy.

Essential Functions

Representative Duties: Under general supervision of the Director Security Operations, job incumbent will:

1. Maintains organization’s stability and reputation by providing excellent customer service to beneficiaries, employees, contractors, visitors, and guests.

2. Performs administrative duties for the Security Department.

3. Secures and maintains premises and personnel by patrolling property, inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points, monitoring CCTV and access control systems.

4. Conducts physical security site surveys and routine patrols of buildings and properties, examining doors, elevators, stairwells, and windows to assure they are secured and other duties as necessary.

5. Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities. Reports irregularities to appropriate parties and maintains daily log of events.

6. Monitors parking lot(s) assuring compliance with legal and TCC requirements. Observing vehicles entering, parking and leaving premises and reporting irregularities as appropriate.

7. As needed examines fire extinguishers to ensure their serviceability and reports discrepancies to appropriate individuals.

8. Responds to alarms and assists with response actions.

9. Confronts unauthorized personnel to maintain facility integrity.

10. Reports to supervisor at regular intervals.

Other Responsibilities:

1. When necessary may require time pressures, frequent change of tasks, tedious and exacting work, exposure to a variety of environments, emergencies and irregular schedules.

2. Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or GED equivalent.

2. Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.

3. Two years previous guard experience or formal training in security-related field preferred.

4. Two years administrative experience or equivalent education.

5. Excellent health and physical condition are necessary due to physical demands of position.

6. Must pass background check pursuant to federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements and State of Alaska background check.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Sensitivity and familiarity with Alaska Native lifestyles, traditions and cultures.

2. Strong verbal, written, organizational and interpersonal skills.

3. Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.

4. Experience with MS Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and basic computer skills.

5. Must maintain strict confidentiality.

6. Ability to organize, multitask, prioritize and work under pressure.

Supervision: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Supervision

Physical demands: The position requires regular and recurring physical exertion, such as extensive walking, bending, stooping, and reaching, crawling and similar activities. Performance of duties may take place in a wide range of locations including limited access areas and rough terrain. The work may also involve lifting and carry up to fifty pounds. Dexterity and agility are also required as necessary to apprehend unruly persons. Job incumbent is required to wear a uniform in accordance with current TCC uniform standards.

Summation

Summation: Strong analytical, communication, cross-cultural and interpersonal skills are necessary for interaction with tribal members and the general public during the course of each shift. Incumbent must be tactful and courteous, demonstrate common sense and sound judgment when handling situations and encounters. As the initial face of TCC, being a polite, knowledgably, professional is essential.
